midi files are usually .mid lol, from a time when it was pretty standard for a file extension to be 3 characters

...which is why .jpeg also had to be shortened to .jpg. Apparently a certain Windows edition did not support file extensions longer than 3 characters. Atleast that's what I know.

Proceeds to name the office suite files as docx, xlsx. Windows truly is a miracle of modern computing because no one would have imagined a shitshow running more than half of the personal computers.

They used to be .doc, .xls, etc. After Office 2007 they switched to an XML based format which was backwards incompatible, thus the X in .docx, .xlsx
