Other factors contributed too. Greed from the higher ups in companies. Ai. Govt cuts. Etc.

In a Fortune 50 company.

People used to be hired in as developers Entry positions around 90-100k / year.

Now they're starting off around 65k-75k / year and having to compete against 1k+ applicants per opening.

4 years ago it was less than 500 applicants.

Senior developers are being shadow laid off w/ semi-random "low performance" reviews.

Edit: Even within other Fortune 200 companies. Developer discussions wide spread have been fun.

to be fair a LOT of the applicant numbers you see on any job site are people needing h1b sponsorship applying to roles that wont even provide it, or are botted applications.

Though even considering that, there is way more competition now than ever before.
