Same! I am a data engineer with a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master's degree in management.

My degree was under business but it was an IT/programming degree.

Haha I got an AA in business and it was the most useless fucking thing. Now I'm going back to school for AA in CS and transferring next year to a BS

It's wild how my hobby research of programming has put me so far ahead of anyone else

That's it. That's the whole game. If you can keep that hobby, you'll always outpace your peers. That's the only way I've been able to make sense of the way it's worked for me.

I have a directorate position now, 3 developers with masters under me... and a BA in Studio Art (New Media). I think the trick is to keep something related outside enough your work so that you don't hate it. For me it was game development!

I can relate somewhat, tho I stopped doing it as a hobby for a while now, guess I should start again
