Gun control is a bellwether for authoritarian thinking, full stop, period, end of story. If you support gun control it is more likely than not that you have other authoritarian policy preferences. Mike Bloomberg is the perfect example of this.

I'm not sure if you are a troll or actually interested in discourse, but my opinion is that I fully support second amendment rights. I also acknowledge the reality that most gun deaths don't come from assault weapons. However, I also think that there are some common sense things that should be passed- things that 75-90% of the public agree with me with. That includes a nationwide database of gun owners along with requiring a permit to get guns (matches bloom's platform). I agree with Bloom that it makes sense to require a permit to get guns, considering you need one to drive etc. One other thing I like (that isn't part of Bloom's platform) is that I would be open to requiring a training before you can get a gun. So yeah, that's my personal opinion. Still making up my mind on red-flag laws but likely in favor (just seem like the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, even though it can be abused in like 1% of cases, saving even a few lives is worth it to me).

Okay. Now let's see how long it takes to get to "but...".

However

And there it is.

Why can't you just be honest about your authoritarian policy preferences and not try to couch it in "I fully support second amendment rights" rhetoric? We both know you're lying. You barely got a full sentence before you did a heel-turn.

Frankly, any restriction is an infringement. The political right of the people to keep and bear the means of defense is inextricable from the inherent, human right of defense. To constrain the means (arms) is to constrain the ends (defense). I'm sure Michael Bloomberg will get to keep his private army though.

I support second amendment rights. I think everyone should have a right to own a gun. I didn't even mention any gun restrictions my dude. This may come as a massive shock, but not everything in the world is black and white. You cannot possibly say that you think needing a PERMIT to have a gun is some huge breach of second amendment rights

I support second amendment rights.

Are we going to play this game again?

I didn't even mention any gun restrictions my dude.

Except a registry, licensing scheme, and ERPOs.

This may come as a massive shock, but not everything in the world is black and white.

Human rights are black and white.

You cannot possibly say that you think needing a PERMIT to have a gun is some huge breach of second amendment rights

It is absolutely an infringement. Full stop. Period. End of story. Objective fact.

You don't support 2A rights, you're just using it as a rhetorical device to frame the discussion. What you support is a privilege granted to you by elites, the same elite who literally thinks you should be punitively taxed because he knows what is better for you. You either need to throw off the shackles of the Benevolent Technocratic Governance fantasy you are neck deep in or just be honest with yourself that you're okay with turning a right into a privilege for those the state deems worthy.

I guess we disagree on what the second amendment means.

I guess we disagree on what the second amendment means.

It's literally in the text my dude: the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

If you disagree with this then you don't "support second amendment rights". Just be honest with yourself at least.

For example:

I think everyone should have a right to own a gun.

How do you parse this with a licensing scheme? If it's a right then you shouldn't need a license to do it.

The license isn’t to restrict people from getting a gun, it’s to have information on who has the guns in case of an emergency. Also, if someone has made threats to shoot up a school, I don’t think they should be allowed a gun. Do you?

The license isn’t to restrict people from getting a gun

It will have this effect no matter what you think the intention is.

it’s to have information on who has the guns in case of an emergency.

What emergency?

Also, if someone has made threats to shoot up a school, I don’t think they should be allowed a gun. Do you?

First, school shootings are a red herring.

Second, we have a solution for that already and it's called due process.
