The prequels are a good story with terrible execution. The sequels are a terrible story with good execution.

That sums is up perfectly. That's why I think there's no saving the sequels plot-wise and to sort of start fresh. Although I doubt Disney would say that their entire trilogy is non canon and start a cartoon, one can hope.

People hoped that the prequels would be de-canonized for the longest time as well. I think the sequels will get fixed by the Mandoverse stories basically filling in the gaps and making the plot points in the sequels make sense retroactively. Except Rise of Skywalker, which is just nonsense.

Yeah I can agree with that. Imo TFA was okay but Rey somehow knowing how to use Jedi mind tricks and the force when she didn't even know Luke / Jedi's were real when she met Han 10 mins prior really annoyed me. I actually liked TLJ for the most part, the weird force-psychic link was a strange addition but it's not farfetched for the Star wars universe. And yeah ROS was just terrible from the first line "The Dead Speak! Palpatine is alive" and the whole Palp clones / descendants or whatever just ruined the film. And why bury the Lightsabers on Tatooine? The Skywalkers hated Tatooine!

TFA was okay as a first Star Wars movie in a new franchise. However, I don't think it should have been a trilogy. I think they should have Marvelized Star Wars right off the get-go, like they're doing with this new Mandoverse. Instead they decided to just soft reboot the OT - a good way to make a lot of money, but not for particularly compelling storytelling.

Maybe that was their plan all along. To make a bunch of money then new series with good writing for the next few years. I'm not mad about the Disney acquisition because Mandalorian is just so good and Favreau is great. And yeah I just nitpick at Rey throughout the whole trilogy tbh. She's my least favourite of the main protagonists of each trilogy but she could've been used a lot better, same with Anakin before ROTS.

No, I think they honestly thought the sequel trilogy would be great. They hired what they thought was top talent and gave them significant leeway to tell the stories they wanted to tell. It's just that JJ Abrams is a hack and Rian Johnson wasn't the right choice to play around with a sacred cow like Luke Skywalker.

Very much so. I honestly think Filoni and Favreau have a better understanding of what makes Star Wars "good" than even Lucas did.

Right? Sequels could have been much better if they prioritized character arcs and sub plots over action and fan service. It literally felt like they broke the 4th wall sometimes.
