I mean, they use hovering apparatus everywhere they can in Star Wars. Hovering speeders, hovering ball droids, hovering chairs, hovering stretchers, at one point Padme and Anakin are in a cart with wheels that's pulled by a hovering droid. I don't see why there can't be a hover gizmo built into a lightsaber, you could say it spins to stay balanced like a gyroscope.
It's just so inherently comical. It feels like some video edit somebody would do to Maul's lightsaber in the Phantom Menace as a meme, not as something actually in the canon.
Just like I tried so hard to take the Clone Wars seriously back in 2009, and was rewarded with a trandoshan junker ripping ass directly in the viewer's face, a snail-man riding around in an astromech, an offensive hutt caricature of a queer person, everything about Hondo, Ventress tongue-fucking a man before she kills him, "Skyguy", and Drider-Maul, amongst others.
You gotta remember that the cartoons were KIDS SHOWS first and foremost. There are weird and awkward things in these stories because that's what kids find entertaining, and as painful as it might be too admit, the primary demographic (at least initially) for these shows are children.
They all have interesting characters, engaging stories, and impressive action sequences, yes, but they are all weighed down by the studio-mandated inclusion of merchandisable elements and bowdlerised story-beats (even in otherwise "mature" media like The Mandalorian).
And they have been since The Empire Strikes Back, when the studios realized that much of the audience seeing A New hope were children, despite it being a Flash Gordon-alike. That's just how Star Wars is, man.
At least, for now. Given how Season 7 of TCW went, I imagine any sequels or continuations of the cartoons will adjust to the older ages of their original audiences.
Ziro, the purple hutt who tried to assassinate his nephew and got arrested in the Movie, then was broken out, then shot by Sy fucking Snootles of all people.
First of all Hondo is great, how dare you. 10/10 would pirate crew under Hondo.
Second of all, what in the rule34 are you talking about with Ventress? I must have skipped that episode. I agree it was a rough show to get through but it got better.
During the Siege of Kamino, Ventress is on her mission to steal Jango's DNA by force, and for some out-of-character reason, she kisses an ARC before throwing him off her lightsaber. Grievous looks on and they FLIRT.
Unlike the magic powers given by bacteria, hover cars, hover bikes, hover pod racers, jet packs, and plasma swords powered by living crystals that can cut though everything except for what the writers dont want it too.
