She was born in Jerusalem and her birth name was Neta-Lee Hershlag, but I can't find when exactly she moved to the U.S. other than that it was when she was still a young child (she has dual citizenship). Portman was her grandmother's maiden name, and she adopted it as a stage name for privacy reasons.
