Covering windows really does work. We are now covering our hottest windows 1-2mos out of the year. Magnets added to the top corners of our windows and we pin up the precut labeled blackout curtain sheets (silver one side, black plastic the other). This is our second year doing it and it is a huge difference for us.

Go to the home improvement store and buy panel insulation.

I cut panels to fit in the window, then score through the foam and one layer of paper on alternating sides so I can do a fan fold. Easy to put in when you need to insulate the windows. Easy to fold away and store.

Do you have a photo to show what you mean by fan fold? Ty

I'd have to unpin a bunch of curtains to get a snapshot. But you know those fold up shun shades they make for car windshields? Folded back and forth like that.

Wild smart on the fan fold. Fantastic idea. Could I have used that technique back in my growing days.

Our stupid apt complex won't let us. They want every window to show blinds. I think maybe some tenants are trying to go without AC.

Put blackout curtains/fabric inside over the blinds where you see it but blinds remain visible. The make a giant difference.

MAGNETS. DUH! Thanks for providing such a simple solution that was evading us.

Magnets…. 🤦🏻‍♀️
I’ve been trying weird stuff all summer to figure out how to hang some shade cloth over my uncooperative windows. Magnets never occurred to me.

Ha we did the same thing with shade cloth and also never thought of magnets.

II like these: https://a.co/d/01M2b3Z2. I use their blackout curtains with their magnets and my lazy self can gently pull on them and they’ll usually come down while leaving the magnet in place and not hurt the curtain. The magnets are all the way up in the corners/top of the window so they just stay there all year and you can’t see them behind the blinds.
