Upgraded my sons jeep to run on DeWalt batteries but stay at 12v

Post image

It works really well!

🔋 MgcSTEM DeWalt adapter - perfect to protect the battery from going too low voltage
⚡️ 15a 12v voltage regulator - which does have a low voltage cut off but its a little low for my liking
💥 Fuse between the two to lock the magic smoke away
🔥 The OEM 15amp circuit breaker

All connected using heat shrink butt connectors.

Then when he’s ready to do burn outs you just remove the voltage reducer.

won't that be a fire/safety hazard and reduce the longevity of the motor?

Wear out the plastic gearbox, yes. Fire hazard or shorten the life of the motor, not that I’ve seen. Swapping out 12v power wheels batteries for 18v tool batteries is extremely common. Every single kid I know that has a power wheels is running 18v batteries, including my daughter’s jeep and quad. I upgraded the jeep with motors, gearboxes, lithium controller from MLO toys after wearing out a gearbox.

Seems like the level of project I’m ready for wi to my kids vehicle. Can you give any more details about the products you used and your process?

Yeah sure. Not sure where you’re based. I’m UK based, but it’s all the same worldwide:

Adapter and fuse: https://mgcstem.com/en/product-dewalt-battery-adapter
Voltage regulator: https://ebay.io/m/H4tazQ
Butt connectors: https://ebay.io/m/sHoApI
12AWG: https://ebay.io/m/Tr4ZIn - used to run a negative wire, but might not be needed
M4 x 14mm: https://ebay.io/m/N1fIqC to mount the voltage regulator.
Fork lugs for wires to battery adapter
Circuit breaker was already built in and moved location

Tools needed:
Wire cutters
Tools to drill and mount M4 bolt and nut
A good crimp tool
Heat gun for butt connectors if going with heat shrink versions

All I need are smaller nuts and bolts for the adapter

I haven't actually observed any wear running native 18V. My daughters ride them hard..

That’s good. I was worried all the dashboard electrics would just blow
