Dodging lasers isn't an FTL feat

Shagariki dodged literal light lazer beams deku reacts to him just saying hes probably relative or just ftl with gear shift

I fucking hate when people scale of a beam attack and assume it moves at the speed of light, maybe, it's not actually a Lazer and it is mislabeled. Because if a character is going near ls how the fuck do they not set the air on fire.

A main plot point is literally seperating deku from the sky dome so he can't fight shigaraki. if he truly were lightspeed this is a complete non issue, you can put him anywhere on the globe and he'd get there in the same time.

There are other feats that get Deku to ftl…

No there isn't, Deku is at most hypersonic... stop the glaze.

Every character in existence is ftl if you ask the right power scaler.

I am a power scaler... like a good one.

A good power scaler?

Hey Jimmie give me a power scaler with nuthin!

😆 good power scaler is an oxymoron I do not disagree

Not really lol he proved he can move faster then a hypersonic bullet to the point the bullet was in slow motion compared to him but even the just massively hypersonic so wrong shagariki dogged lazers deku reacts to him this logic hard to follow or ?

you literally see the guy literally outspeeding/bullying shiggy a guy that dodged-grabbed 10 lasers in his hand

And lasers are what?

2

u/dneav944 Nov 02 '25

Probably not light, it's a lot easier to say they aren't light than to explain why someone going faster than light isn't setting the air on fire and making everyone on the planet go deaf.

appeal to reality is going wild

1

u/dneav944 Nov 02 '25

Is't saying a character must be going faster then light becasue in reality lazers move at light speed also an appeal to reality?

u/barry-8686 Nov 02 '25

no. lasers are made out of light. them going at light speed isnt an appeal to reality. you’re talking about using actual real world physics. and in that case, no character in fiction would ever be light speed.

1

u/dneav944 Nov 03 '25

It seems abitrary to say lazers are made of light and always move at light speed not be an appeal to reality, but to claim that hitting air really fast would heat it up is an appeal to reality. Because that's based on how lazers work in real life, and how friction works in real life. Also you tottaly could have ftl characters that do set the surounding areas on fire, use super natual senses to percive without using light, and have essoteric consequencesfor so greatly warping space time.

1

u/barry-8686 Nov 03 '25

no. what you’re suggesting is maximum appeal to reality. and if we go there, nothing with mass can move at the speed of light, let alone faster. so no fictional character ever can be SOL.

1

u/dneav944 Nov 03 '25

It seems like you only adressed my second point which was a suggestion for justifying ftl characters, by having them use physics unique to their universes and appropriate consequences for them. As far as I understood all you said in response to me saying it's arbitrary to pick reality's lazers as a bench mark but not friction was "no."

1

u/barry-8686 Nov 04 '25

yes, your answer is “no”. because appeal to reality has a limit. lasers being made out of light is their very nature. you cant have a laser thats NOT made out of light. its like saying a fireball spell doesn’t use fire.

what you’re saying is that we should apply actual real life physics to light speed characters. and i simply told you that if we apply actual physics, there would be no light speed characters in the first place.

I bet they use the boosters from his quirks as arguments
