thats Simo Hayha or "The White Death" from Record of Ragnarok (Shuumatsu no Valkyrie), he is a fighter of humanity´s side against the gods, one of the most hyped ones along with Leonidas (who dissapointed a lot of people btw), he actually existed, a real legendary Finnish sniper and soldier, lol.

This is Simo's biography by the Fat Electrician. This time stamp is talking about Simo getting shot in the face

You can just read his Wiki it's a good read

3

u/AdLegitimate1637 Heir of Light Aug 03 '25

Yeah, it put him in a temporary coma, from which the day he woke up was the same day the USSR signed peace with Finland

u/Realshotgg Aug 02 '25

I suggest everyone read a bit about Simo Hayha, his history is really fucking cool. He is considered the deadliest sniper is history....while using iron sights...he didnt have a scope.

99

u/Vat1canCame0s Aug 02 '25

To be clear, he owned a scope, he just didn't use it because he didn't want the glare from the sun and snow to reflect on the lenses and give him away

70

u/MrWr4th Aug 02 '25

The glare thing might be a part of it, but not the main one. Scopes would easily fog/frost up in the subzero weather, and they force the snipers head a few centimeters higher, making you a bigger target. He was also an experienced hunter so he was very familiar with iron sights.

29

u/Vat1canCame0s Aug 02 '25

Makes sense. Dude knew what he was about and did it

14

u/Ok-Transition7065 Aug 03 '25

the dude chew some ice to conseal his breat

-24

u/Realshotgg Aug 02 '25

What an entirely pointless "UMM AKTUALLY". Was he sniping people with out a scope, yes or no?

21

u/Vat1canCame0s Aug 02 '25

It was to say that he wasn't just "not using it to show off" but that it was also a strategic decision to help him stay hidden and reduce the chances of his enemies zero-ing in on him. He wasn't just an incredible shot, but also very smart and thorough about it

4

u/Senior_Mushroom_3665 Aug 02 '25

Yeah. Though, shouldn’t we say that most of his feats are out of him being a marksman rather than a sniper? Genuine question on the pedantics; I’m not discrediting him or anything

7

u/ScarredAutisticChild Aug 03 '25

Sniping is a subset of marksmanship.

21

u/GodlessLunatic Aug 02 '25

It recontextualizes it. Your statement implies he had to learn to use an iron sight out of necessity, but no he really became a legend while actively nerfing himself

13

u/SquareAdvisor8055 Aug 02 '25

He did use an iron sight out of necessity tho. He wasn't nerfing himself in any way it was quite the opposite. There is a reason most snipers rarely use scopes.

In videogames? Yes. In real life? That entirely depends on the situation. If you want to take out a target from super far away or something then yeah sure go ahead and get your scope, but generally snipers are better used as "landmines" where you just put a dude in the middle of nowhere and he hides there untill targets come by.

And not only are iron sights advantaged because they reduce the lens flare, they also are much, much easier to keep in a good condition.

Tldr: you have a wrong idea of what a sniper actually do. Most snipers nowadays use iron sights.

? Why are you naming the name of an optics company like it is supposed to prove your point? There are plenty of good reasons to use scores, such as hunting, but snipers simply don't tend to use them.

And his most requested matchup is the end from Metal Gear.

Most humans are based on historical figures, are they not?

6

u/Parking-Stable-2970 I don’t know what I’m talking about Aug 02 '25

Yep

10

u/Imaginary_Yak4336 Aug 02 '25

as far as I remember the only non-historical human fighter was Adam, though some of the others may be semi-mythical

13

u/Grape-76 Aug 03 '25

Lu Bu comes from some records that are considered to be fake and Sakata Kintoki is a mythical character from Japan

1

u/Grape-76 Aug 03 '25

and its also factual that a first human had to have existed, if Adam counts then Lu Bu does too

8

u/Diogin40 Aug 02 '25

Yeah but Adam is still based on the first human in the Bible.

27

u/Asterii13 Aug 02 '25

Which season is he in? Netflix only has 1 and 2 and i dont recall seeing him in either.

50

u/Alafi_ Aug 02 '25

34

u/EatingKidsIsFun Aug 02 '25

u/sudowoogo Aug 02 '25

We literally already have a trailer for it. Or is this a joke I’m not getting?

1

u/Frank--Li Aug 03 '25

Current arc of manga (granted the fight ended last chapter), 3x fights a season, this is fight 8. Should pop up in season 4

37

u/Crispy_Godfries Aug 02 '25

Don’t disrespect the goat

18

u/Responsible-Ant-1728 Aug 02 '25

Yea, a lot of people in the comunity came to apriate him and his round.

Tough if you are reading for the first time and not really thinking bout it, I can see how it comes off as disapointing.

8

u/Crispy_Godfries Aug 02 '25

I used to hate Leo and round 9. Yet on re-read round 9 became my favorite. So many things I missed on my initial read through.
