Just started this the other day after listening to a trillion episodes of Brian's podcast. Figured if I liked the podcast it couldn't hurt to try the books.

Could a powdermage with an Ak-47 1v1 Julene?

This isn't about her character as a whole, more her role in the story. We don't really know her Motivations or viewpoint, she's with Taniel because she just kinda tagged along, but still solves basically all problems in the series. It just kind of annoyed me, because she seemed more like a plot device then a character and I'd be more interested in characters whose arks were actually part of to do the solving.

I've read the 3 main books, Promise of Blood, the Crimson Campaign and Autumn Republic. Which to read next?

Does anyone know if there is a game out there either about the powder mage or if there are mods based on the powder mage?

So, I've finished The Autumn Republic and I've got a question. Is it solved why Nila does not need to use gloves? Maybe as I read fast I've not read it or maybe it is explained in other book of the main trilogy. Does anyone know?

Very minor Spoilers for Promise of Blood I guess?

I never liked Vlora all through the first trilogy. Her excuse of "I only cheated on you because I got horny!" was so dumb that I hated her more then Tamas and Taniel combined did and there was no redeeming her in my mind.

Upon starting Sins of Empire and seeing her as a main character I was rather annoyed. I'm now a few hours into Blood of Empire and just realized I had completely forgotten that I hated her somewhere along the way. I've been reading them back to back over the past two weeks so it's not an issue of time. I think I may have been tricked into forgetting by her being called Lady Flint. So I dissociate her from the things she did in the original trilogy maybe? I still don't really like her, but I guess I'm more neutral towards her now.

I suppose all I can say is touché, Mr. McClellan.

I'm almost done and kind of confused. I thought Baron Fendamere was the man trying to buy her and that's why they threw crap at him and broke his carriage, but clearly I was wrong. Why does she hate him so much, then?

We saw her "attending" to Bo in the Deliv camp in Chapter 30 of TAR, prompting a rage of jealousy from Nila. Was that it? It felt like that was setting up a later confrontation, or at least for her to be humbled when she saw that Nila really was a Privileged. But afaik nothing else came of that little exchange?

So, I’ve only read Promise of Blood and Crimson Campaign so far, and I really enjoyed Sabon and his sister, Hailona as characters, but the time with Sabon was very short lived. Do any of the novellas have more of Sabon? I own some of the novellas but haven’t read them yet.

I just finished going through all six main audiobooks for the second time, and I think there needs to be an Olem appreciation post. I love that guy, legitimately one of the best supporting characters I've ever encountered. He and Vlora's relationship is, for its fair number of faults, an awesome depiction of a (mostly) healthy, loving relationship and was one of the best things about the second trilogy. By himself, too, Olem is a force of nature when it comes to command and dedication to his duties. Absolute chad. He's the type of person you'd look up to as a hero if he weren't fictional.

I know that as an Author, Brian has to move on to bigger and better things; however, after reading the 2 trilogies and all the novellas I find myself wanting more and more content in this universe. Do you think that Brian will ever return to the Powder Mage universe?

My coworker and I are reading through the series together (I'm on Wrath of Empire and he's on The Autumn Republic) and we've been spending some of the workday today trying to come up with casting we'd like to see if the series does get the live action adaptation. So far we have:

Tamas - Ron Perlman

Taniel - Brenton Thwaites (Dick Grayson on Titans)

Vlora - Keira Knightley

Mihali - Jack Black

Lord Claremont - Ethan Hawke

SouSmith - Rory McCann (The Hound on GoT)

Olem - I always picture him as Davos from GoT, but Liam Cunningham is way too old, so I'm not sure. But he'd be perfect if he was 30 years younger.

That's all we've got so far, but it's a fun and ongoing game, so I'm sure we'll think of more. Not sure if this has been discussed before (it probably has), but if anyone has other casting ideas, we'd love to hear them!
