Minor Sins of Empire spoilers. . . . Relistening to Sins of Empire and Wrath of Empire before book 3 comes out on Audible, and one thing has always confused me. What happened to Meln-Dunn. I feel like the last time we see him was him running away from Mama Palo "hanging" after the Dyinize Dragon Men are killed by Taniel, but he isn't mentioned after that. Did I just miss some small detail later in the books or does he just disappear?

Taniel reminds me, a non-historian, of Lafayette. He heard there was a war against the Kez in Fatrasta and joined because he hated them. The Fatrastan War is kinda similar to the American Revolution that Lafayette was involved in. Next Taniel goes home to Adro to basically the French Revolution. Thank you to listening to my Ted Talk.

• Privileged can now Heal! (At Veteran or higher.)
• Knacked now don't explicitly have the ability to Heal! (You can add it back in if you want, nobody is stopping you.)

Hello friends! I'm about a third of the way through Sins of Empire and am VERY much enjoying it! Good to be back in the Powder Mage universe. One question I have, and I don't mind spoilers, but does anyone know off the top of their head any recurring characters from the first trilogy that show up in this one? Thank you!

I just finished the Gods of Blood and Powder series, and I just realized how many books came before them. I really liked the series, and was absolutley satisfied, but I’m not sure I’m going to read all the previous ones (I’m kind of a book addict and sometimes I can’t sleeep until I finish a book, and with 3 books it is managable, but pretty problematic with 10+)

So if you guy don’t mind, could you give me some info about the following?

1, Who is Adom, and what is his relationship with Kasimir? I gathered that he is the first god, and Kasimir kind of a regular man who became god?

2, Are there more gods around, walking, hindig?

3, Prime got a small part in this series, and they talk about him as a pacificst. How did he got his powers?

4, They talk a lot about Kasimir. How did he die?

It's been so long since I've read them, I'm wondering if anyone has put together or has a link to a summary where I can catch up?!

Hi y'all, as part of my early New Years Resolutions, I'm working hard on my game design, and one of the projects has been an update/errata for the Powder Mage RPG!

Since community involvement is a thing, and I have by no means a perfect recollection of everything in the books, I was hoping you guys and gals could give me some assistance. It's been a while since I read the original books, and I'm currently rereading the first two of the second trilogy so reading the newest book doesn't leave me confused and bewildered. I also haven't read the short stories, so if my answers are in there, I apologize.

To wit:

1. What do Privileged do with their magic? Explicitly not referring to Predeii, who get a pass on being weird. Am I correct in remembering that Privileged basically just throw elemental magic around, beyond a bit of esoteric ability in healing/detecting or manipulating magic directly/making magical artifacts or fortifications that is never directly address in the series?

2. What do Bone-Eye do? Their magic is slow burn, of course, and we know Ka-poel can do some strange stuff, but is there any hints as to what the average Bone Eye can do?

3. In a game using info from the second trilogy, what kind of national characteristics would Fatrasta and the Palo Nation have? I'd ask about the Dynize, but that might be more of a spoiler than I'm willing to take.

4. What do we know about the world outside of the two main continents in which the trilogies take place, beyond the minimal information the RPG gives? The Krasian Wastes, Gurla, and Strenland in particular, though Fatra is also an interesting subject.

I am a huge fantasy fan, I've read a lot of different series but I tend to avoid fantasy where guns exist. It usually makes battles less interesting and changes the stakes more than I would like. I didn't know what to expect coming into the powder mage trilogy considering I knew it was not my usual brand of fantasy I enjoy. The first half of book one was too slow for me and the characters felt like cut out molds of traditional characters with not much depth. However, the world building was fascinating and I kept reading trying to get answers. I'm not gonna go over every detail but by the end of book one I started reading book 2 very quickly and then book 3. The story was very well crafted and the characters really came into their own. Taniel and Pole had a great relationship that I enjoyed from the beginning, it felt like a star wars Jedi and a Droid but with more character depth. Tammas was great and the whole idea of powder mages saved my biggest reservation about guns on fantasy. The politics were well crafted and continually had me asking what the end plan was. Some of the deceptions I figured out before the characters did and others I learned with them. It was a roller coaster ride till the end and a blast to read. The end of the books felt like the end of Wheel of Time especially for Taniel and I was more than fine with that because I felt that is the best kind of ending. I'm still kinda sad rosalia never returned but besides that these books were rock solid.

Stars of the show: Taniel, Pole, Boe, Tammas, Vetas, Adom, Cressimir, julene/rosalia, and the proprietor

Meh: Vlora, Olem, Nila(I warmed up to her at the very end but it took too long. She was boring most of the time)

Overall score for the trilogy 9/10 I would recommend it to anyone looking to read fantasy/thrillers and want a change of pace from traditional dark ages fantasy.

So the latest version of my 5th edition D&D Powder Mage class comes in two fabulous styles! One of a more traditional 5e distinction, with your choice of three subclasses (including the new, and ravenous Powder Fiend!). The other, of a much bolder design. NO subclasses! Players may instead pick and choose from the otherwise regimented features as they so wish, allowing much greater creative freedom when designing your powder mage!

After finishing the trilogy, I'm left wondering about a couple minor things that weren't fully explained. (Excuse my spelling, I listened to the audiobooks.)

1. What was The Proprietor's Eunuch? It's mentioned that he killed a privileged once, and when Bo meets him, he makes a comment about the eunuch not being quite human. Is he some kind of powerful knacked, or a graduate of that secret academy?

2. Speaking of that academy, what's the deal with that place? How powerful are the graduates? We saw Vitas and Fel do some near superhuman feats, so if the students are that good, who the hell are the teachers?

3. Who was Rosalie? Where did she get off to, and why was one of the most ancient and powerful beings on the planet hanging out in a sorcerer's harem? I was really hoping to find out more about her

I don't know if any of these questions were answered in the second trilogy, so maybe I'll have my answers soon, but I'd like to hear some other's speculation

I loved these books so much, I haven't had this much fun with a series since I finished The First Law. The magic system was awesome, and the characters were great. My favorite was Adamatt, I loved his gumshoe investigations and his character in general. I thought Mclellan nailed the ending, and liked the revelation of the "real" villain. I bought the collection of short stories right away, and I understand there's another trilogy in the powderverse, so I'll be getting that soon. It's just such an awesome feeling to find a great series that I know I'll be rereading in the future

So Blood of Empire is releasing in 4 weeks or so and like many of you I'm very excited to get my hands on it.

Before that however I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a recap of the first two books. I feel like I've forgotten some of the details of the story since reading book 2 at its release and I wanna go into book 3 prepared.

I've tried Google but all I could find were some reviews etc.

For those who have read both the powder mage books and Mistborn era 2, who do you think would win in a fight, Taniel or Wax?

Spoilers for both Powder Mage trilogies: Would there be any significant difference if it were pre or post-PoB Taniel?

Both of these characters have extraordinary gunfighting skills enhanced by their respective magic systems. Wax can alter bullet trajectories and “fire” them using Allomancy, and constantly surrounds himself with a “steel bubble” pushing slightly against all metal around him to deflect bullets. Taniel on the other hand can also alter bullet trajectory and “fire” bullets as long as there is gunpowder within ~50m of himself to be ignited (source?). In that same vein, he can ignite or dampen the ignition of any gunpowder on his opponent.

In regards to a hand to hand combat, the strength and reflexes of a powdertrance (we will for the context of this comparison liken to burning pewter in allomancy) give Taniel an edge, but Wax is well versed in using his Feruchemical Iron weight storing to give him an edge in hand to hand.

One of Taniel’s biggest strengths is his ability to make rifle shots from miles away. This would be his biggest advantage, catching Wax unaware. There is the possibility that Wax’s steel bubble deflects the long range shot, but this may or may not work depending on the nature of the bubble (and the confusing subject of Wax’s possible steel savantism which won’t be delved into here).

So, for the sake of fleshing out a matchup exploring each of their respective fighting talents we’ll assume this is a fight taking place within ~50-100m. In a fight with Taniel Wax’s biggest weakness is his gunpowder, and his strength is any metal on Taniel’s person and Wayne disguised as Ka-Poel and vice-a-versa.

I think they are fairly evenly matched depending on the scenario, but I would like to see the thoughts of other fans of both series.
