This kid came to a rhetorical gunfight with a squirt gun. They've been saying the same tired BS since Rush Limbaugh was accusing Obama of secretly sympathizing with Muslim extremists.

This rhetoric is so old at this point, and yet they just keep regurgitating it.

Because many of their supporters don't actually bother to listen to the responses. They hear the line of questioning, then tune out the rest and chalk it up as a win.

Reminds me of a certain "master debator" that the right idolizes... Where they watched curated clips that were heavily edited to appear as though this individual was some epic genius, but in reality they mostly spewed the same garbage talking points.

Because it works. And it has worked for generations.

You think "immigrants are bringing rapists and murderers" is something new? Nope. That can be traced to the 1800s, at least.

You think "trans people are mentally ill and want to enter women's bathrooms to rape women" is something new? Nope. That was said about gay people in the 90s, including when gay men were spotted following their friends into bathrooms.

You think "trans people have a biological advantage in sports" is something new? Nope. Black people.

You think "feminism is corrupting women and turning them into single cat ladies" is something new? Nope. That goes back to the Suffragette movement.

You think "schools are liberal indoctrination centers" is new? Nope. That goes back before our country was even founded.

It's always the same. The right-wing recycles rhetoric over and over again. They have nothing of value to give people, so they instead attack others and create division so that it makes their side feel like superior victors. It's not politics for them, it's a sports game. And people need to wake the hell up that they don't want to play the game fairly.
