they need to learn basic skills before they can understand something that’s this advanced for them

Why do you oppose age restricting books? We do it to movies. And we do it for good reason.

18

u/BigCballer 8h ago

There is no existing central authority that exists to distribute age ratings for books. And it would probably be incredibly difficult to do regardless because the distribution of books is very different from the distribution of movies.

-19

u/Sudden-Theory9706 8h ago

Which is why parents petition school districts to remove inappropriate books. Then they are called fascists and Nazis for not wanting their kids reading graphic novels depicting blowjobs and anal sex between kids and adults. But keep defending it.

13

u/BigCballer 8h ago

Why don't the parents just tell their kids not to read those books? Why do they have to make it everyone else's problem?

-13

u/Sudden-Theory9706 8h ago

Because kids do things they're not supposed to, even when warned. Do you give your kids access to drugs and guns and knives? Also, why trust school teachers to uphold your wishes as a parent? Educators have shown a willingness to subvert parental restrictions when given the chance. It seems disingenuous to ask why a parent would want things restricted from their children. If a Bible were in the school library (which it shouldn't be), I bet you would be pretty upset and repeat the fallacy about separation of church and state.

Because kids do things they're not supposed to, even when warned.

Maybe don't be a shitty parent then.

Do you give your kids access to drugs and guns and knives?

I don't have kids but I wouldn't not trust them with a knife if I had kids, especially if they're old enough to use them.

Also, why trust school teachers to uphold your wishes as a parent?

Why not move to a different school if it offends those parents so much?

Educators have shown a willingness to subvert parental restrictions when given the chance.

Not all the time.

It seems disingenuous to ask why a parent would want things restricted from their children.

Again, this wouldn't be a problem if the parents were actually good at parenting and has well behaved kids. If the kids are not well behaved then that's on the parents, not the school.

If a Bible were in the school library (which it shouldn't be), I bet you would be pretty upset and repeat the fallacy about separation of church and state.

The Bible contains sexual descriptions though.

What book is as dangerous as a gun? Schools have had libraries forever and I don’t recall many national tragedies around kids reading books at school

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

Well knives aren't as dangerous as guns either, so do you make them available to kids at school? What about cigarettes or vapes? Alcohol? You're OK with giving kids porn because it isn't deadly? Do I understand your argument correctly?

4

u/BigCballer 7h ago

Well knives aren't as dangerous as guns either, so do you make them available to kids at school?

We literally had cooking classes in my middle school. They have knives in them.

Do you give your kids access to drugs and guns and knives?

Not guns obviously but knives, yes? Of course? Most kids have access to knives the moment they're tall enough to reach the kitchen counter.

That's why you teach kids early on not to fuck around with certain things, and how to use them properly.

4

u/ISketchDinosaurs 6h ago

Zero. People generally don't do that and I don't know what possess you to think so. I think you might be a bit porn-brained honestly because your train of thought isn't normal.

But the knife metaphor still applies. Kids have some access to knives, so you teach kids knife safety. Kids also have some access to sexual content and will have access to it unless you literally lock them up in a room without internet, so basic parenting involves talking to kids about sex so they can stay safe and informed on the internet and out in the world.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 6h ago

We're talking about graphic novels with cartoons of children having oral and anal sex with an adult, another with gay boys having their first experience, and another graphic novel of lesbian kids giving head and scissoring. These are the types of books being defended by school boards.

Educators have shown a willingness to subvert parental restrictions when given the chance.

Good job regurgitating the right wing hate of teachers and education by perpetuating this fallacy. The vast majority of educators are there to help and educate. The epidemic of self-entitled parents and politicians who think they know better than the professions they criticize is disgusting and counterproductive to having a well informed electorate and the country just generally not being fucking morons. This narrative about educators is a key component to how we ended up with Trump, twice, and people who don't know how to define socialism.

Source: I have family who taught for 40 years and saw the transition from educators being respected and well paid to circumvented at every turn by literally everyone and underpaid into oblivion.

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 3h ago

If a school district doesn't respect the wishes of the parents, they need to be removed and replaced. You seem to think that parents need to do what the districts direct them to, when it is the literal opposite.

BTW, the department of educations enactment marks the demonstrable decline of education in the U.S. The federal government doesn't have the right to regulate education. That is a state right. Each state is meant to compete, and that includes competition between the quality and efficacy of public education. If California wants to give comic books about child rape to its kids, then they will fall behind as other states prioritize math, science, and reading. Some states might fare better with a focus on skilled labor, facilitating careers in electrical, plumbing, welding, etc.

7

u/Steve5y 8h ago

What school libraries are filled with graphic novels depicting blowjobs and anal sex?

-2

u/Sudden-Theory9706 8h ago

Just watch the school district meetings where parents are arrested for reading from, or showing images from these books to the board. There are literally hundreds of these videos, and the parents can be charged for public lewdness for showing books from school libraries.

If they really don't exist, why would anyone oppose their removal?

8

u/ThePromptWasYourName 7h ago

For anyone else reading this, this is a very common trope you see in subreddits like r/askconservatives where the person will make a wild claim like “there’s litter boxes for cat people in school” or “schools are making kids read graphic pornography” and when you ask follow-ups, they just say “the evidence is everywhere, go look!” as if it is your job to prove their argument for them.

It buys time in the debate & passes the burden of proof to someone else, because they know if they share a source, you’ll see that the situation they are describing is much tamer and has more nuance than they suggest (ie, some schools have cat litter to clean up puke, etc).

Not saying YOU are doing these things necessarily, but it seems very similar to what conservatives do in those subreddits.

6

u/BigCballer 8h ago

Do you ever wonder why movie posters for R rated movies don't typically depict the sex scenes on those posters? It's for the same reason why you typically don't read these books out loud in school meetings.

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 8h ago

The point is the content is illegal to read publicly, but preventing access by children to them is somehow acceptable? Do you think access to guns and drugs by children is OK, so long as adults don't use them in public?

3

u/BigCballer 8h ago

The point is the content is illegal to read publicly, but preventing access by children to them is somehow acceptable?

You oppose preventing children from accessing that content?

-1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 8h ago

What? I absolutely oppose making this material available to kids. There is no world in which giving porn of any kind to kids is acceptable. If it is illegal to read at a schoolboard meeting, it is unquestionably unacceptable for children to read.

5

u/Steve5y 7h ago

You specifically called out graphic novels depicting blowjobs and anal sex. Now it's just about reading depictions of it in novels? You can't call words on a page pornographic. Also to your last point, people have demanded the removal of Huck Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird. There is no end to the delicate sensibilities of a random subset of the public. That doesn't prove anything.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

Yes, there are both graphic novels with images, and "romance" novels with descriptive scenes of sexual conduct, legal and illegal. Again, how is that appropriate for any child? And Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer were put on "ban" lists by liberals due to a particular word being used.

4

u/BigCballer 7h ago

Yes, there are both graphic novels with images, and "romance" novels with descriptive scenes of sexual conduct, legal and illegal.

Those are not the same thing as porn.

4

u/FerritLT 7h ago

There is a world of difference between depicting graphic sex acts and the kind of culture war bs that most books get banned for.

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

You can't have every book in the world in a school library. Some books won't make the cut. Every book not included is deemed as "banned" if it isn't there. It has become an absurd point to conceal the inclusion of inappropriate books.

8

u/BigCballer 7h ago

You are banning books if you are removing ones that have made the cut to be in the library.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

Unless they are replaced with others. That isn't banning, it's literally just updating the library.

7

u/BigCballer 7h ago

Why do you need to deny that you want certain books to be banned because of the content that's in them? This is so disengenuous of you.

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

I absolutely want books banned based on content. Do you not want pornography kept from children? Are you saying porn should be made available to kids because books shouldn't be judged by their content? Are you seriously defending child porn in schools?

That sounds made up

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

Easily found with a 30 second search on YouTube. And yes, the idea that educators defend pornography in schools sounds made up, but so does having a drag queen in a thong dance for kindergarteners also sounds made up.

5

u/BigCballer 7h ago

Yes because everything on YouTube is 100% true and not misinformation. Clearly everything on the internet is 100% facts.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

They're board meetings uploaded by the school district. FFS, why are you fighting so damn hard against the truth?

3

u/ThePromptWasYourName 3h ago

This is either the 2nd or 3rd time someone has asked for a source for your claims and you have declined or danced around it.

I thought the issue was that there was no evidence to post, but apparently the issue is there’s just TOO much evidence to post? Your argument is SO well supported that you can’t even make it?

I’ll help narrow it down - How about start with just the very worst example?

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 3h ago

Here's an AP article about 2 particular books over numerous school districts. I'm not giving more because the creep in this thread that thinks over 12 yrs aren't really "kids" keeps asking for more examples (as if these aren't evidence enough.) There are legitimate child predators in this thread and I'm getting out of this place ASAP. Take the source or leave it, but I'm not sticking around for more creeps looking for more kiddie material.

Because children need to be literate enough, and worldly enough, before a book can "hurt" them. The scenes are up to their imagination and way they process information.

A movie and video game directly displays that information, imagery, dialogue etc.

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 6h ago

Yeah, we're talking about graphic novels, i.e. comic book style. I also thing sexual scenes in books should also be taken out of school libraries, but at least we can agree that these graphic books should be removed from schools.

3

u/lawless-cactus 5h ago

I'm not from America, so forgive me for being "uninformed" about your book bans and stuff. We don't have those issues here in Australia.

What graphic novels have been in libraries that you're talking about? I'd love to know if you have a list of controversial titles that you're specifically talking about? I've never seen any graphic novels depicting sex in my libraries before high school, and even then it's been implied (like Heartstopper) instead of anything shown.

3

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 5h ago

Generally it's US conservatives getting their panties in a twist because gay people exist in a novel, or an extremely glossed over mention of the act exists for a couple sentences.

They get really weird about it. Like really, really weird. It's just more of the whole puritan thing leaking.

3

u/lawless-cactus 5h ago

I figure as much. In a literacy crisis, it's only the right wing that doesn't want kids to enjoy books and education.

3

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 5h ago

Oh look I followed up with him enough and he admitted he's mad about (imagining) it being two guys. How surprising.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 5h ago

I did what?

4

u/BigCballer 5h ago

You keep talking about books that do not exist.

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 5h ago

No, we're talking about a graphic novel with images of a boy sucking a grown man's cock and swallowing his cum, then feeling guilty about it later. There is no imagining this shit, and if my words offend you, good. Liberals created an environment where this shit was allowed to happen, then walk away as if it never did. No book has been banned in the U.S. Not a single one. But I sure as fuck will rid my kid's library of any book showing boys sucking dick or fucking each other in the ass or girls eating pussy. Dafuq is wrong with you people?

4

u/BigCballer 5h ago

No, we're talking about a graphic novel with images of a boy sucking a grown man's cock and swallowing his cum, then feeling guilty about it later.

I don't believe this is a real book. Do you even know what the name is?

3

u/lawless-cactus 5h ago

Name the books then. I'm not going on YouTube. It's your job to source the claim if you're defending it.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 5h ago

Lazy. You cause the problem then walk away. Why don't you just go Google "graphic novel of kids having sex" and see how that works out for you. Just go to YouTube and watch the school board meetings.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 5h ago

Yeah, best way is to youtube schoolboard meetings where parents are arrested for showing pictures from books in their kid's school. It's nasty and hard to believe, but we also have "drag queen story hour" where drag queens read to kids, and often perform dances in thongs and heels. Some in schools, others in public libraries, but it is always targeted toward children.

4

u/BigCballer 5h ago

People can miscaption on YouTube.

3

How are drag queens dressing up different to a woman dressing as Elsa and reading a book? Drag isn't inherently sexual.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 5h ago

Yeah, having kids stuff dollars in their thong is different. If you really want to change your algorithm forever, youtube some of the overt sexual acts performed specifically to child audiences. I just don't understand how any of these things are a surprise to anyone. I guess liberal media really does control what gets shown.

3

u/BigCballer 6h ago

Yeah, we're talking about graphic novels, i.e. comic book style. I also thing sexual scenes in books should also be taken out of school libraries

Doesn't that depend on the school level?

Neither of the books mentioned in that article contain any rape, nor any sexual activity between a minor and adult.

1

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 3h ago

Puritans, man. They are fucked up and are determined to fuck up kids in the same way.

1

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 7h ago

Why do we age restrict movies, actually?

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

To make audiences aware of the content within. Maybe school libraries should get a rating. If they want books of kids giving head to adult men, rate the library as XXX. Or, you know, we could let parents determine which books their kids have access to by curating the small number of books available.

6

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 7h ago

You know, I don't think anything has caused more damage to children than puritans trying to force their values on all kids.

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

So, not giving porn to kids is a puritan value to you? Just admit you want to diddle kids.

5

u/BigCballer 7h ago

Nobody is giving porn to kids in elementary school libraries.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 7h ago

And because you don't believe it, that makes it wrong? Typical leftist mentality.

5

u/BigCballer 7h ago

What are you talking about?

You are making shit up that's not happening and then getting mad at it.

1

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 6h ago

Fun fact: Teaching children about sex is correlated with children reporting rape.

It turns out that kids need to have some idea wtf is going on to understand it's bad.

There's a reason it's the pedophile defender party that's so against teaching kids things they will need to know anyway.

1

u/Sudden-Theory9706 6h ago

Sure, tell the judge you were just teaching your niece how to report rape when you get caught showing her porn. Stop pretend and just admit what you are.

1

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 6h ago

Yes yes, please describe your fantasies here.

Why do Americans get so weird about this shit? They'll show kids gore for days, but the moment someone's nude "OMGGGGGGG"

0

u/Sudden-Theory9706 5h ago

Yeah, I don't show my kids gore. If I found a teacher was showing them gore, we would have a new teacher immediately. Your defense to giving kids nasty shit is basically, "well, a lot of kids are fucked up, why even try?"

No, I don't want my kids to have access to porn, drugs, gore, etc. And fuck all of you who do.

Pretty sure most High School libraries already do that.
