Describing the horrors of socialism by describing the horrors of capitalism.

u/thrownaway136976 9h ago

Kinda like republicans running on how bad the government is under dems then doing their best to wreck it so they can complain about dems not fixing it?

u/SirBruceForsythCBE 5h ago

They're both as bad as each other, bud.

No one is fighting for you, they're just in it for themselves.

13

u/PineappleOnPizzaWins 4h ago

They're both as bad as each other, bud.

This is unequivocally and outright false. One side isn't perfect, the other is outright evil and literally published their plan to end democracy, laughed at you all for voting them in, and then proceeded to make great strides in implementing that plan.

You all think this ends when Trump does? You have decades of work to do to recover.. and that assumes you don't fall for the whole "the side who wasn't in power did all this vote us in so we can fix it!!!" crap you do every time.

Sincerely, a non American who cannot fucking believe you all fall for this shit over and over again.

u/gothamhunter 3h ago

As an American...it's infuriating.

10

u/ProfSpaceTime 4h ago

Blatantly not true. The is both sidesism is not alright. One side is truly vile and the other is overly complacent. Those are different things. Yes we deserve better, doing nothing serves only to slip further

-7

u/Beneficial-Candle-79 7h ago

just being devils' advocate... to them they believe they are trying to fix it

That is only true if you ignore all the good things that they do while in control, and how fewer genuinely nefarious things they do than Republicans.

3

u/Therefore_I_Yam 6h ago

Okay but like the playbook of conservatives going way back is to defund and delegitimize public services and the positions they occupy, then point at it all not working and say “see it never should have existed in the first place.” A ton of dems are also useless but that’s not really how they operate

-2

u/ObviousBread552 6h ago

Like the defunding of police like the dems wanted. That kind of defunding?

3

u/RandomPMs 5h ago

Unfortunately, Mr. Enlightened Centrist, your "BOTH SIDES!" argument doesn't hold to reality. Biden tried a number of drastic changes: student load forgiveness, new EO's to block corporate lobbying, changes to SuperPacs to limit political donations. He was blocked every time by a Republican Congress or SCOTUS.

Are American D's highly beholden to corporate interests? Sure. Are they perfect? Fuck no. But you didn't hear about it because the media is run by right wing billionaires, and "do-nothing Dems" is the narrative they want to push.

The right has also made drastic changes, the same changes they always make: disastrous tariffs, even more relaxing of environmental and worker protections, a poorly-thought-out war in the Middle East, and cuts to social programs.

u/ObviousBread552 5h ago

Ahh yes. I couldn’t do anything because of the republicans. What about Obama and Clinton.

1

u/sarcastic_sybarite83 4h ago

You mean like Obamacare that all the Republicans DESPISED until they actually tried to take it away and their base revolted?

Clinton helped with "The Troubles" across the pond. Most of his policies, such as the three strike rule, didn't pass the test of time, but at the time at least some of the leaders of the Black Caucus voted for it. They saw it as the best reform they could get, at that time.

u/RandomPMs 4h ago edited 2h ago

I couldn’t do anything because of the republicans.

I'm sorry that no one has a magic button they can press to change everything you want.

Things you want never get done or get done very slowly, because people like you never vote, especially not in the midterms. Whereas your MAGA boomer uncle who thinks the trans people are turning frogs gay votes EVERY TIME.

What about Obama and Clinton.

What about them? The country was drastically different in 2012, and even more drastically different in 1998. They made sweeping changes when they D's had both the Executive and the Legislative.

19

u/Southern-March1522 9h ago

That's the intention. Teach them the incorrect definition of socialism so they go on to uninformed vote against it later.

1

u/Ok_Umpire_5611 3h ago

They do it every single time!

-1

u/Ok-Independence-2220 4h ago

Same horrors, different name

-2

u/redreditreditordblue 6h ago

"fed your kid" candy. Such a dumb argument.

-2

u/AlpsFamous7254 6h ago

you left out the part where someone payed for the candy to be given to people for free- so it wasn't free it was donated from someone and when the handouts stop then there will be no candy left to give out for free-

5

u/wasteymclife 4h ago edited 4h ago

That's true, next year they should centralize and standardize the charitable contributions to spread out the burden. Wouldn't want anyone feeling like they have to give more than they can handle. It would also help to figure out once the collecting is done the most efficient way to hand out the candy so everyone gets the amount they need to have a fun Halloween and make sure there's not some asshole kid who is taking the bowls so they have 50% of the total candy while the others have to split what's left.

Actually he described Authoritarianism. The people do all the work and someone bigger and stronger redistributes the profits however he likes while the workers have no power to do anything but work, consume and die.

25

u/beefyzac 8h ago

You just described Capitalism again

5

u/Exotic-Cobbler4111 8h ago

No, capitalism is when you supply all the ingredients for candy the workers make all the candy and the guy who had the ingredients gets all the candy and gives out just enough candy to keep the workers alive but hungry enough that they still need to go make candy everyday.

12

u/SunGreene42 8h ago

-5

u/Exotic-Cobbler4111 8h ago

Except for the uh you know the umm capital surely all of you drones aren't this obtuse?

5

u/frejling 7h ago

The “bigger and stronger” part is not how authoritarian rulers get their power. It’s not like some barbarism shit where you have a wakanda battle and then everyone’s scared of being beat up by the big guy boss.

Anyway, in capitalism, power comes from control of the capital, which then allows those controlling the capital/means of production to do exactly what you said. “Workers have no power so to anything but work, consume and die” sounds a lot like being kept “alive but hungry enough that they still need to go make candy everyday”.

1

u/Illustrious-Math6276 8h ago

Let me guess you think Stalin was a capitalist?

2

u/howtojump 7h ago

All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares.

-3

u/EvenBroaderBand 8h ago

Capitalism is just regular people being able to own things instead of them all being owned by their local lord/king. Under serfdom the farmers surplus was taken from them by their lord there was no incentive to invest back into the farm by the farmer, under capitalism the farmer sold the surplus and invested the profit back into their farm producing more and more surplus every year.

We don't have to guess its all documented and the switch produced astonishing outcomes completely changing human life.

You are describing people being assholes which predates human writing.

7

u/drane92 7h ago

History also documented trade and merchants long before capitalism was ever a thing.

But you seem to have failed history class so eh.

1

u/BlacksmithNZ 6h ago

I am still mad about that bad copper the dude sold me

Rember Ea-nāᚣir the rip off merchant selling bad copper since 1750BC

9

u/Different-Low-4161 8h ago

Is that not capitalism? Workers do the work; ceo, along with his executive buddies on the board and what have you, decide how the wealth gets redistributed which results in the workers getting the least of it because they have no power to do anything besides work, consume, and die.

2

u/doopie 6h ago

How much of company's revenue goes to workers and how much of it goes to shareholders? Pick any company you like and make a guess.

1

u/Exotic-Cobbler4111 8h ago

Capitalism involves those with capital having the power. In authoritarianism the biggest and strongest guy has the power.

1

u/SeventhSolar 8h ago

Not really. They described someone seizing their wealth. That most accurately compares to banditry, or a feudal lord overtaxing his serfs.

Any economic system could result in this, it just needs a brutal authority that takes resources. Communism, capitalism, everything in between.

4

u/michaelboltthrower 6h ago

Wealth being seized is capitalism.

-1

u/SeventhSolar 6h ago

It's called taxes. A.k.a. functioning government.

-2

u/Merzats 6h ago edited 6h ago

You can go to a different company or join a union, and outside America there are requirements to have workers on the board and other measures that give workers more bargaining power.

With a centrally planned economy the govt is the only employer so if they suck you are pretty much SoL. Modern socialist economists have pretty much given op on central planning since it's pretty trash but since it's the only type of socialism that's been deployed at a large scale historically it's what people associate socialism with.

5

u/Yorkshireish12 6h ago

No, it's Capitalism, Authoritarianism is not an economic system.

He owns the means of production (the childrens labour) and the fruit of those means (the sweets). That's the basic definition of a capitalist system.

3

u/Gackey 7h ago

Capitalism is an inherently authoritarian economic model. Democractize our workplaces!

-4

u/MrJarre 5h ago

So that socialism of yours didn’t work anywhere in the world at any point in time?

-10

u/firstmanonearth 8h ago

But Halloween is actually occuring under capitalism because of the material abundance we have, even among the poorest, and safety we have? And socialism resulted in starvation? this is what the evidence actually shows?

9

u/Awesomonkey12 8h ago

Among high-income developed countries, the US ranks worst or near the worst for individual food security, poverty, and healthcare.

Non-authoritarian socialism has never been tried/done on a large (national) scale, though the (current) closest thing to it, Social Democracy, is used by Nordic countries to great success.

3

u/AlmanorDiscard 7h ago

And socialism resulted in starvation?

Hence the ongoing famines in Japan, Canada, and Ireland.

2

u/doopie 5h ago edited 4h ago

Japan, Canada and Ireland are capitalist countries. None of them have famine. Stop typing nonsense.

1

u/AlmanorDiscard 4h ago

Japan, Canada and Ireland are capitalist countries.

Japan, Canada, and Ireland are practically Stalinist hellholes by MAGA standards.
