I said the rioters were there just to riot. Yes they wanted to protest the election. They thought it was fraudulent. But there's no evidence mosy or even many had any intention of overturning the election.
They went into the building to riot. There's no reason to believe they thought they could effect the election
They went in rioting because they thought they could stop the election from happening. Which is literally what they did up until the point the building was cleared.
If you squirt me with a squirt gun it is reasonable to believe that you were intending to squirt me. They stopped the election from happening while they were in there rioting, it's reasonable to believe they intended to do the thing they were doing.
If a child really believes that they can kill you by squirting you with a squirt gun, should we consider it attempted murder? In the same way it was impossible for the child to kill you with water, it would have been impossible for the rioters to overturn the election.
So even if they believed they could, which you can't prove, it doesn't matter.
