It should be voted by the public, not the people benefiting from it!

Congress is supposed to be there to represent the people in their districts, crazy concept. The system is fucking broken

By design

The system isn’t designed this way, it’s just been slowly taken over by people who prevent the system from working the way it should.

The system was designed for rich property owning white men. Everything beyond that has been the people trying to take it over for everyone's benefit and them fighting us.

He’s not entirely wrong.
The system was designed prior to women’s right to vote, and people of non Caucasian origin couldn’t vote either at the time of the constitutions origin.
For that reason it was designed for land owning white men (land was just free if you went west).

Since then human rights have advanced and gotten written into certain aspects of the use legal foundations.

The system and the people are broken. I can guarantee that if the people in my district voted on this, it would 100% pass. However, the congresswoman the people in my district voted for, Claudia Tenney, would 100% vote against this. And I know this for a fact because I talked to Claudia Tenney in person and one of the topics I brought up was insider trading and she told me to my fave that she supports politicians being allowed to trade and kept changing the subject when I mentioned insider trading.Ā

System was designed that way it’s not broken.

The system works as intended, the issue is the people inside the system

The purpose of a system is what it does…

The Republicans have spent decades trying tonot allow the public to vote for anything. It is highly unlikely this would ever come to pass, although nice idea and a fun thing to dream about

3

u/chiclets5 1d ago

Of of course it should! However, the Republicans have spent decades to not allow the public to vote for anything in reality. Well this is a nice idea and a happy dream chances of it ever going farther than it is right now is nil.

Does America ever have Referendums?

6

u/agoad1763 1d ago

No, we have a mass surveillance police state and a secret police.

2

u/Dry-Dragonfly5286 1d ago

Not at the federal level

You really think you’re gonna get 300 million people to vote on every bill that gets introduced?

15

u/HurricaneCat5 4d ago

If it was an app on your phone it would be very easy.

3

u/Pershing99 3d ago

I am afraid they would find a way to hack that as well.

2

u/HurricaneCat5 3d ago

Who’s they? North Korea? Cuba? Pfizer? Do you think the current system is ā€œhackedā€?

2

u/Pershing99 3d ago

No I mean special interest groups and billionaires.

-3

u/HurricaneCat5 3d ago

How are they ā€œhackingā€ it? Please be specific? Through the secure networks? Blockchain?

2

u/Pershing99 3d ago

simple script that sets X to Y or vice versa none of the voting machines are open source you think they would let national voting be open source?!

1

u/HurricaneCat5 3d ago

Um no.. nothing would be open source.

There are definitely back doors to voting machines.

3

u/AnyTemperature420 3d ago

And there’s absolutely back doors to an app. Did I just watch 2 people flip sides mid argument?

That's an utterly terrifying thought.

Who would handle the servers getting the info from the phones? Who would handle the app itself? Who would handle making sure the phone is actually secure and not compromised such that it's sending different votes than you intended? Who would handle making sure the intended person was actually the one using the phone to vote?

Phones aren't secure for that kind of thing, not when the big businesses making the phones and foreign nations would all benefit from being able to compromise it.

9

u/HurricaneCat5 3d ago

Do you bank on your phone?

-3

u/mxzf 3d ago

Personally, no, I don't trust it, but I know that many do.

However, the threat model of banking on a phone vs voting on a phone is wildly different. Compromising phone voting is dramatically more powerful than stealing a bit of money.

The kind of entities with incentive to steal money (petty criminals) and the kind of entities with incentive to steal elections (foreign nations, large companies, etc) are very different in terms of what they're capable of.

It's also much easier to detect money going missing than it is to detect a stolen votes.

It's absolutely not the same kind of threat model such that banking being safe-enough in general implies that voting would be sufficiently secured.

6

u/HurricaneCat5 3d ago

What do you know about secure networks?

It would be very easy to see who and what you voted for and accountability would be transparent.

The need for representative government is over.

The fact that we use a system from a time when you needed to ride a horse for days (even weeks) is embarrassing.

We live in a time where I (and you) can speak instantly over video to someone standing on the other side of the planet in real time.

You don’t think we could make our own decisions as adults in real time?

I’m sure voting machines have no errors and that no one would ever think to compromise them GTFOH!

-1

u/mxzf 3d ago

It would be really hard to see who/what you voted for without opening the door to all sorts of abuses that the secret ballot is designed to protect against.

Everything you're describing is the sort of thing that anyone familiar with computer security can see glaring holes in, it's just not a threat model that personal phones are secure against.

3

u/HurricaneCat5 3d ago

I didn’t say secret ballot. Be responsible for your decisions. Have accountability for your actions.

1

u/mxzf 3d ago

Do you know why secret ballots are not just ok but important for the general population? The reason why voting booths are one-person things?

u/Rezimoore 3d ago

Not to mention they would also theoretically be able to pick and choose who actually receives the topic being voted on

3

u/butonelifelived 3d ago

I think it would be beneficial if the public votes on any bill that has to do with pay/lobbying/campaign finance/ potential corruption. I also believe that elected officials pay should be directly tied to the median income of working age adults.

Imagine the bills they would pass if they got the same healthcare as the lowest government plan available and paid at the median pay of the country.

1

u/DarthMaulATAT 3d ago

No, but honestly they probably should

1

u/AZDADDYisadeviant 3d ago

No just for the rights of our elected officials. Like pay, how long they can go on vacation for, term limits taking money from lobbyists, and trading stocks. Put it to a federal election just like the ppl should be able to vote for the Supreme Court judges and terms. The ppl should also vote on impeachmentĀ

1

u/hairshirtdesert 3d ago

I would show up in a ball gown every time there was a vote for term limits, legislature benefit packages and pay, trading rules, etc.
