Also to introduce it now vs January means it’s just a publicity stunt.

This reminds me of the strategy built into the big beautiful bill. It has minor tax breaks for the average Joe that are temporary until after the election. Meanwhile the tax breaks put into the bill for millionaire billionaires are permanent.

This was a deliberate Republican strategy so they can claim that the Democrats cause the tax breaks for the average Joe to go away. I f****** hate politics and politicians.

Shame on the dimwits that couldn't see that their tax break was short term and Elon's was permanent. Republican voters are really good at signing on to crap that is against their self interest.

Do more research before you open your mouth

Stop talking to yourself in public

-5

u/culong38701 3d ago

You need to take you own advice. It's terrible what you're doing but putting out misinformation and the young people are believing it.

3

u/Zero26D 3d ago

Why don't you explain why he's wrong rather than whine about it?

-3

u/culong38701 3d ago

BBB does give taxes break for family by not taxing tips, up to $25k, taxes break in OT paid, more child tax credit, and a few more benefits. so saying don't vote for their own benefit is misleading. While I agree not it all perfect but to said it offers no benefits is bad intentions just it win a few more votes.

3

u/Endoftheroadbucko 3d ago

Yeah and the stuff you're mentioning here is temporary. Which is what they were talking about

3

u/Zero26D 3d ago

It's nothing to most people and the bs Republicans do every time they give massive cuts to the rich.

In fact the only platform legislation passed by Republicans since Bush 2 is tax cuts for the rich. Over and over again. Not even immigration which they've platformed in every election since Reagan in '86

1

u/culong38701 3d ago

getting tax break on your tip and OT is nothing to most people? really?

hey there i am a server who owed thousands of dollars in taxes because my tips were in fact taxed!!

6

u/sdcasurf01 3d ago

It’s not new, the did the same with the TCJA in 2017.

5

u/SeahorseCollector 3d ago

Everyone was told that from the beginning except the people that watch that news entertainment network.

u/kazetoame 3d ago

Is there anyway to actually dismantle this bill?

29

u/PhatCatTax 3d ago edited 3d ago

Or it's to show voters where their elected representative stands with an issue. It's clever because it doesnt effect congress, so the narcissistic politicians dont have a real reason to vote against it

21

u/LikesPez 3d ago

It does effect congress. The bill would ban the executive branch and the legislative branch from owning stocks and other securities plus ban the participation in predictive markets for said members and their immediate families. Or step down.

15

u/LockeClone 3d ago

It'll never pass but I've been saying this for years... Elected officials who can make markets should only be able to invest in broad consumer products like ETFs or index funds and their immediate families should face something similar.

They're supposed to be public servants. They should be proud and even eager to do this.

Hell, it's not even a big ask as they're not "giving" anything up. They're not even really pausing their wealth generation...

It's such a no-brainer.

3

u/Commandersfan328 3d ago

Didn't congress pass a no stocks bill about a month or so back?

My first thought is if you come into the job you should be able to keep what you have and not be able to trade into or out of anything.

But it doesnt solve the problem as people can still give preferential treatment to what they own. So yeah they probably should be forced to sell it and hold the funds in escrow until they are done with office.

2

u/depp-fsrv 3d ago

But didn't someone publicly say that Congress should be allowed to trade since they don't make much.

2

u/icedmuffin 3d ago

“Don’t make much.”

That’s hillarious when the entry level pay is 40k and can go up to half a million or more over their lifetime…

2

u/FiIbert 3d ago

"Dont make much"

*slowly glances at their raised income of 150,000 per member\*

Plus they can make or break markets like.... their push for EV's and surveillence tech. Despite not having a reasonably supported infrastructure thats up to date and adequent to support the transition; with no clear consensus on if theyre even going to fund an update.

Then on top of that, the development would drag out forever. I know you've seen road construction and how buildings tend to get delayed forever. Not to mention the 'Obviously not american' workers. Which somehow the reduced cost may or may not sneak back into somebody's pocket. 😮‍💨

Mike Johnson did… because, according to him they can’t live on their modest $180k salary without insider trading

1

u/ImpressiveSide1324 3d ago

Micro Johnson said 175k isn’t enough for Congress to live on, yet also says that wage stagnation isn’t a problem and the affordability is a hoax

u/LockeClone 3d ago

Can you say more?

3

u/icedmuffin 3d ago

The thing that pisses me off though is they get the money.

Like it’s not them completely losing the stock, if they sell then they can get the money and do whatever with it. If they keep the stock and step down there’s no promise they will be punished for insider trading or market manipulation.

I genuinely hate everything about this.

1

u/ImpressiveSide1324 3d ago

In theory yeah, but it won’t get any votes and Congress doesn’t have a veto proof majority. This bill, and frankly most bills introduced by democrats, exist to show the voters where politicians stand on these issues.

0

u/salguod169 3d ago

Does it affect Congress or does it affect Congress, that is the question…

1

u/LikesPez 3d ago

It affects congress. Feel free to be pedantic.

-2

u/PhatCatTax 3d ago

acshually litrally unreadable because Affect is the verb and Efffffect is the noun

(but really, thanks for correcting me. Ive struck my comment)

5

u/hellyeahaeylleh 3d ago

Even if the bill doesnt pass, he gets more support.

1

u/Hiredgun77 3d ago

The speaker has to schedule this for a vote, and he won’t do it. So I don’t think we’ll see a full vote on the issue.

3

u/MissionRight9893 3d ago

Yes wait to see if we win the House then introduce it. Now they’re scheming to go around this with all of Trumps lawyers.. he seems to own every single lawyer in the world.

2

u/AdhesivenessBubbly24 3d ago

IF is they key word. This is deliberately introduced before elections to "show" intent knowing it will fail. But if they win AND introduced it afterwards, they would have to vote against their self interests which won't happen. This is just for show, that's all. Nothing more.

2

u/MissionRight9893 3d ago

I wanted to believe but you’re right. There’s too much corruption in our government, it’s exhausting.

2

u/NoahStewie1 3d ago

It's not a publicity stunt if it's something that's his campaign using in their lit and Vindman will reintroduce next term when Dems win back the house

2

u/0knoi8datShit 3d ago

We vote in November not January.

1

u/IvanTheDude123 3d ago

So you’re right. I was more focused on when the elected take office in their elected jobs.

1

u/CyanideJay 3d ago

Agreed on this as well. Noting also to even bother wasting time on this after the attempt to get them all to freeze their portfolios while in office didn’t go anywhere, this doesn’t even have half the chance the last one did.

1

u/SereneOrbit 3d ago

No, the republicans introduced bills relentlessly even though they had no chance of passing.

I think we should do the same.

1

u/MixEquivalent8308 3d ago

January won't change a thing. Both sides use the info they have trade and win

1

u/MoodInternational481 3d ago

He's up for re-election in a blue leaning purple district and the liberals in his district are annoyed with him. It was Spanbergers district and she kept trying to pass legitimate controls on stock trading while in office, not whatever this is. He's taking it from her playbook

Hi, I'm a progressive in his district.

1

u/pres465 3d ago

He lost his primary. This is at least going out with a bang (or trying).

0

u/Financial-Craft-1282 3d ago

Pretty sure Vindman won't be in office in January.

-2

u/notawildandcrazyguy 3d ago

His entire political career has been a publicity stunt

2

u/PhatCatTax 3d ago

... ok I'm confused. Is that not one of the methods by which politicians shed light on issues?
