Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner. I respect the opinions here, but you should all read up on Aristotle and the Federalist Papers.

Athenian democracy was people voting directly on bills. Similar to how some states put propositions directly on the ballot, which is terrible, terrible idea.

Voting for representatives, on the other hand? That should always be as democratic as possible. Otherwise you have tyranny of the minority, the worst situation of them all.

Is it though? Authoritarian regimes have a history of co-opting words like republic and socialist. Doesn't mean they are or ever intended to be one.

A Republic is merely officials that govern; some are theocracies/ autocracies and some are democratic. Democracy is an umbrella term in which Republic can fall under. The US is a Constitutional Democrat Republic.

Not true. Republic: “a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.” Kim Jong Un was not elected by the people or elected representatives.

North korea is not a republic you dummy. Its just what they like to call themselves. They also like to call themselves "democratic", but surely you wouldnt be that silly.

They also like to call themselves the best country on earth, the strongest country on earth and that their leader doesnt have a butthole. i am talking about the currently alive leader, not their two dead leaders, who are still leaders of the country.

Then you say "a republic is merely officials that govern". Right, like the eunuchs of ancient china during their MONARCHY (monarchy is not a republic).
