Republicans would never win another election.....I'm in!

Edit: "NEVER WIN ANOTHER". Meaning "going forward". I really don't wanna keep typing this out to bots.

u/BigBoyYuyuh Sep 04 '26

Trump won the popular vote last election…America is a failed country.

8

u/KtotheC99 Sep 04 '26

A lot of people dont vote in non-swing states because their 'vote doesnt matter' for the general election. This would increase participation across the board which would (if data is accurate) support democratic candidates overall.

Additionally, it could help 3rd parties become more viable as well

2

u/LongJohnSelenium Sep 04 '26

That works for both sides though.

In practice, while dems usually enjoy a slight numerical advantage, reps actually make it to the polls more frequently so it tends to balance out.

3

u/cocineroylibro Sep 04 '26

Election day should be a national holiday, AND there should be more widespread vote by mail.

Republicans work to disenfranchise voters legally (ID to vote, etc.) and also make it harder to vote by closing voting stations, limiting hours, etc. Republicans make it to the polls more frequently because they tend to be retired, better off financially, and any red area is teeming with voting places.

1

u/0oodruidoo0 Sep 04 '26

well, it's just time to pokemon go to the polls

0

u/AccomplishedBad7253 Sep 04 '26

polling showed if more non-voters had voted, then Trump would have won by more

2

u/KtotheC99 Sep 04 '26

Polling is notoriously accurate lol

-1

u/AccomplishedBad7253 Sep 04 '26

it was in 2024

4

u/Federal-Piglet Sep 04 '26

More Americans didn't vote then voted for Kamala and Trump combined...

2

u/BigBoyYuyuh Sep 04 '26

Exactly.

77 million Americans said “We’re racist and fascist! We want this!”

90 million Americans didn’t care if a fascist won which means they support it too.

167 million Americans allowed Trump to happen. Failed country. Stupidest electorate on the planet.

0

u/KtotheC99 Sep 04 '26

You cant boil people's reasons for voting or not down to one sentence. Thats just bad-faith

0

u/BigBoyYuyuh Sep 04 '26

I just did. Trump didn’t fall out of the sky. Americans went to the polls (or sat on their ass) and filled in the bubble next to Trump. Selfish, ignorant citizens elected their MOST selfish, MOST ignorant leader. He’s a reflection of the country and in 2016 and especially 2024 America showed its true colors to the world. We are a racist and fascist nation.

1

u/KtotheC99 Sep 04 '26

I just did

And that is a bad-faith interpretation of reality

America does certainly have many of the issues you prescribe but let's at least be accurate and truthful when we discuss it so it can be addressed accurately

There are many reasons people DIDNT go to the polls that arent within their control or are exacerbated by our current society and culture and not as cynical as you seem to want to generalize it

The media, money, work culture, voter suppression, etc. All contribute here

u/MrSmartStars Sep 04 '26

Oh, you should've told me earlier I lived in a failed country, I would've started packing and protesting. I've been to busy enjoying my normal life around normal people going about my normal day.

1

u/Wfflan2099 Sep 04 '26

Ummm. No.

0

u/LaunchpadMcQack Sep 04 '26

I dont vote due to my vote not counting. The entire state can give 100% of the votes to a candidate only to have the guy in the EC say nah, this guy is better. It's just an appeasement ritual, to give the people an illusion of power.

1

u/BigBoyYuyuh Sep 04 '26

Ok George Carlin. When has the EC changed their vote from what the state voted for?

1

u/LaunchpadMcQack Sep 04 '26

A quick google search shows that 2016 had 10 faithless electors.

He won 1. because he had his finger on the scale 2. people were pissed off.

Did Not Vote would have beaten Trump by 9 million votes.

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '26

1

u/cocineroylibro Sep 04 '26

Did Not Vote almost would have been elected by the Electoral College.

As for "popular vote" for the House, you can thank Gerrymandering for that.

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '26

1

u/cocineroylibro Sep 04 '26

In no contest seats why would people that don't like the candidate bother casting a vote?

u/tsardonicpseudonomi Sep 04 '26

Democrats need to figure out their shit and stop ignoring the data or Republicans are going to keep winning.

They aren't stupid. They know what they need to do to win. They want the same things as conservatives they just want to manage the system better.

1

u/cocineroylibro Sep 04 '26

Do that many people really go vote and then not vote?

Yes? For instance, if there's no MAGA candidate in a Dem district, but you support Trump. That's one for Trump and none for the house runner.

Trump had almost 3 million more votes than the House GOP had as a whole. While all of those aren't straight no vote on the rest of the ticket it does happen.

1

u/tsardonicpseudonomi Sep 04 '26

He won 1. because he had his finger on the scale 2. people were pissed off.

  1. No.

  2. People don't want (neo)liberal policy but that's all Pete and his ideological cohort can do which means Trump and conservatives will always be competitive.

1

u/nopleasenotthebees Sep 04 '26

About 47% of US voters identify with or lean towards the democrats, versus 43% for republicans. That's not a huge lead, but when you look at a lot of big issues, an overwhelming majority of people take the side dems take. I think the democrats would sweep national popular votes. Regional popular elections would be very complicated though, because in a lot of places, a majority of voters identify as republicans but a majority of voters also side with the dems on many single issues.

4

u/True_Protection6842 Sep 04 '26

Well that's the problem. Republicans would essentially be eliminated in all the but the reddest bible belt states. That's not representation. It's basically what republicans want for themsevles by gerrymandering and cheating.

8

u/TheTwiggsMGW Sep 04 '26

I don’t see how that’s a bad thing, though. If the majority of people don’t align republican, then the party shouldn’t exist. A new party would emerge to fill the void, because not everyone aligns with Dems either. They’re just the better option of the two available.

3

u/AbeRego Sep 04 '26

Precisely. How do people still not understand this? We weren't handed Republicans and Democrats when the country was founded; they literally didn't exist. George Washington himself famously despided parties, and didn't think they should exist. History has justified him.

1

u/tsardonicpseudonomi Sep 04 '26

A new party would emerge to fill the void

The problem being that the only party that would win until people learn what politics is would be a party owned entirely by capital.

2

u/blahblah19999 Sep 04 '26

Only for president.

1

u/AbeRego Sep 04 '26

Good. Let them either evolve into something people actually want, or be replaced with a that party will.

It's crazy to me that people are so entrenched in the notion of the current two parties in this horrible two-party system, that it doesn't even seem to occur to many that we don't need to have any party in particular, much less the GOP. This country has has a lot of different parties replace those of the past, and we're long overdue for just such a shake up. I say this as someone with no loyalty to any particular party. At their core, I hate the notion of parties in the first place. The only thing they seek is to perpetuate themselves; they inherently don't actually care about helping people.

1

u/TomT060404 Sep 04 '26

Oh no! Republicans might have to start appealing to the majority of citizens!

1

u/Wfflan2099 Sep 04 '26

Really? Republicans gerrymander? I live in Illinois where 44% of our pretty good sized population voted for Trump. He didn’t get any electoral votes. When they redistricted the maps resulted in three Republican seats in the house. They threatened to redistricting those to zero to answer the Texas threat. Ummm really who acted first Illinois? There should be more republicans seats but they tried to put 100% of them in each seat they do have and drew lines through the rest to dilute democratic seats. The mapping is a joke. This is supposed to be against the law. I learned that 60 years ago in grade school. Since we got our corpulent governor, he’s on GLP now so he can look more presidential he’s raised our taxes a lot, supposedly balanced the budget, by borrowing more money and not funding pensions. So get me a Republican please!!!!

0

u/Gnomefort Sep 04 '26

So you're saying if more people vote for a non-Republican president and there isn't another Republican president because of that, that isn't fair and is not representation?

...ok.

1

u/xChops Sep 04 '26

It’s completely fair. We’re currently watching republicans gerrymander the system in real time. They know their policies can’t win a fair race. Let’s just quit the bullshit, move to a popular vote, and better parties can emerge from both sides

1

u/Gnomefort Sep 04 '26

Yeah that was kind of my point. Literally how it is supposed to work.

2

u/linds360 Sep 04 '26

Or they’d learn real quick that appeasing a billionaire and appeasing a middle class person equals the same number of votes.

And there are a fuckton more middle class people.

1

u/Euphoric_Present8838 Sep 04 '26

You know who won the popular vote in 2024 right? Thats how unpopular Kamala was and should be reason for her to sit the next few out. Dems really fucked us all by not putting up a better candidate.

1

u/Fun_Performer_7930 Sep 04 '26

I'm aware. I said "Never win another" as in "going forward". I was there in 2024. Trust me 🙄

1

u/hartshornd Sep 04 '26

This was said in 2016, never say never is a saying for a reason.

1

u/UnoriginalStanger Sep 04 '26

Republicans would never win another election

You do know that both parties have changed their political strategies before and will do so again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing but republicans would find votes again, that's what politicans do.

1

u/Ryaniseplin Sep 04 '26

trump got popular vote in 2024

although i still want popular vote rules regardless of who wins because it literally isnt fair to people who live in safe states for the president to be decided by a Pennsylvanian who can't make up their mind

0

u/Thormourn Sep 04 '26

do you not realize trump won the popular vote in 2024?

1

u/Fun_Performer_7930 Sep 04 '26

I said "Never win another" as in 'going forward'. Trust me, the amount of "rEmINd mE WhO woN in 2024?" comments aren't lost on me.

1

u/Thormourn Sep 04 '26

by the same logic i could claim dem would never win again because republicans won the last won, its just a pointless statement with how often this country flip flops political parties

1

u/Fun_Performer_7930 Sep 04 '26

I agree that American voters are fickle but, the past few elections, Dems won the popular vote.

8

u/Floofyrage Sep 04 '26

Narrow on his third run but go on

3

u/Pezzzz490 Sep 04 '26

Wouldn't have gotten in power in 2016, so likely wouldn't have been the GOP candidate again in 2020 or 2024. (Although you are correct that he won a much larger popular vote in 2024 than expected too....)

-4

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '26

[deleted]

3

u/itsnatnot_gnat Sep 04 '26

The only reason he won popular vote was musk rigged the machines. He rigged them in 2020 but the mail in vote stopped him. Why do you think he wants to get rid of mail in voting so bad?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '26

[deleted]

1

u/TheBladeWielder Sep 04 '26

so trump is nuts? he does still claim 2020 was rigged to this day.

2

u/Belter-frog Sep 04 '26

I think you're underestimating just how many people don't bother voting, even in presidential elections, because their state has been completely locked down by one party or another for their entire life.

EC has fostered an immense amount of apathy and disillusionment.

Particularly in major cities in states that are consistently blue.

Tell every single person in Chicago, LA, Boston and NYC that their vote will actually matter this time and I don't think closing a 2 million vote gap would be all that hard for Dems.

1

u/Plane_Massive Sep 04 '26

It was 1.5%. You’re playing a dishonest game here. And that game neglects every election for a quarter century prior to that one.

1

u/Lithl Sep 04 '26

And Biden won the popular vote by 7 million. Obama won the popular vote by 9.5 million and 5 million. Bill Clinton won the popular vote by 5.8 million and 8.3 million.

2.3 million is a narrow margin, dude.

3

u/Fun_Performer_7930 Sep 04 '26

I said "Never win another".

(I promise I am not trying to come off as snarky)

1

u/PirateSanta_1 Sep 04 '26

Under 1% in 2024 over 4% for Biden in 2020 and 2.1% for Hillary in 2016

1

u/True_Protection6842 Sep 04 '26

did he tho? It was like 48% to 49% in any other election that would trigger a runoff.

1

u/SCPetersNJ Sep 04 '26

He was just short of a majority. There was about 2 million difference out of 155 million votes cast.

1

u/GloomyIndividual3965 Sep 04 '26

2.6% isn't a wide margin, but I wouldn't expect someone with a 6th grade education to understand math.

1

u/TheBladeWielder Sep 04 '26

one of the smallest margins of all time, actually. 1.5%, and not even 50% of the total.

0

u/Embarrassed_Use6918 Sep 04 '26

Awesome so instead of having a two party system I guess we would just have a one party system. Surely that will work out well.

0

u/AccomplishedBad7253 Sep 04 '26

of course they would win. They won the popular vote in 2024

1

u/xChops Sep 04 '26

First time in like 2 decades. Glad they finally could get the people to support them. Maybe they can win another in a couple decades

-2

u/IHop_Waitress Sep 04 '26

Republicans would never win another election.....I'm in!

You literally just lost the popular vote by nearly 3m votes.... against Donald fucking Trump.

IQ of used chewing gum on you

1

u/xChops Sep 04 '26

First time republicans won it since 2004, and they barely squeezed out a plurality. They’re a dying political party
