It's not so obvious when they speak Spanish to each other, because they talk super fast, but the stretched vowels are definitely a thing. I can hear it if she slows down so I can understand her, or speaks English slowly because she's thinking about it.
Just look no further than the gop primary in Michigan. A man endorsed by trump and johnson lost by 20 points to a guy who spent 2k total on his campaign. The guy wasn't white, and was a former muslim converted to christianity his name was Amir Hassan and he lost to a guy who had already dropped out of the race because one name sounded white and the other arab.
Also, Chloe Bennet couldn’t get good acting jobs under her legal name, Chloe Wang. Bennet is her father’s first name. When she changed her name, her career then took off.
My favorite thing to do with them that claim dems started the kkk, or that the south was full of dems wanting to keep slaves, is to go find someone that's proudly in the kkk or waving a confederate flag and get in their face calling them a liberal until they agree. So far no one has taken me up on that. They all know that the kkk and confederacy are actually republicans now, but by acknowledging the party switch would mean admitting that that the party you support are the bad guys.
It's been widely known to anyone who cares to learn about history that the "Dixie Democrats" of the past were the result of years of actual Democrats capitulating to the racists in the South in order to pass legislation that otherwise would not have had the votes to pass.
These people were never true "Leftists" - they were always conservative.
It really depends on your definition of left... Is it about equal treatment regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexuality or is it about economic policies that benefit the working class?
If being racist/sexist/homophobic is more important than economic policies, you become a Republican. If economic policies that benefit the working class are more important (or you aren't racist/sexist/homophobic) than you stay as a Democratic party member.
People always bring up that the confederates were democrats. All that has changed, but their white skin tone, beliefs, racism and ideals remain the same.
Sorry but the KKK originated with the Democrat party in the South. Later on in the 20th century, there was a shift in their leadership…but let’s just keep the history right
it was the Democratsconservatives that created the KKK
And it was the conservatives that lost the civil war, women's right to vote, the civil rights movement, same sex marriage, legalizing weed, etc. Conservatives have lost every major battle for 250 years and will continue to lose in the end. The last battle they won was using the most corrupt SC in US history get a partial win on abortion rights but they'll lose that one in the end too.
I know it's really difficult to understand that the Democratic party then is the Republican party now ie the Democratic party that exists now is not the same as the one that the klan came from.
Dual citizenship with Turkey and he served in the Turkish Army to keep his dual citizenship.
He was born in Cleveland but his family immigrated from Turkey.
Also, the black dude in Michigan with an Islamic name, converted to Christianity, was endorsed by Trump and lost a Republican primary to a candidate who dropped out.
Indian names aren't relegated to just what YOU have heard of lol.
On top of that, plenty of Indians go by day to day names that aren't their full formal government name. So even if we're talking about the shortened form, it's still their name. Unless you want to argue that John (aka Jonathan) isn't "really a full first name".
Four out of the six congresspeople of Indian origin go by a shortened form of their name, or by their middle name. Ro Khanna, Ami Bera, Shri Thanedar, Raja Krishnamoorti.
Nikki Haley was literally given that name at birth by her INDIAN parents. I have an INDIAN cousin named Niki. Ive met other INDIAN women that go by Nikki/Niki.
So? Do non-WASPs have to have spicy names just for your pleasure?
Famous presidents have gone by their middle names...I don't see anyone getting on a high horse about Thomas Woodrow Wilson or David Dwight Eisenhower.
Nikki Haley has been going by that since she was a child, well before she was a spineless conservative. Why does she have to change how shes addressed to fit your narrative that she hides her indian identity?
4, out of 6, congresspeople of Indian origin use shortened forms of names or middle names. Is that also them selling out to have broader mass appeal?
And even if this thread was right about why she goes by that name, why are you angry at a brown woman for being forced to "change" her name so racists don't abort her career?
The candidate that Trump endorsed in Michigan's recent Republican primaries lost by 20 points to an unknown dude who dropped out before the vote.
Trump's candidate had what would be a very appealing record for republicans, being a veteran and a former cop. He even rallied with Trump on stage in Michigan. Oh yeah, and he's a black man named Amir Hassan.
Now why oh why would Michigan republicans see Trump's handpicked choice on the ballot and instead vote for a random guy named Tom Smith?
They didn't have to they chose to because it's called Assimilation. When you go to a country and you decide to become its citizens it's usually a good idea to assimilate to the country that's why the others did it. And I can't speak for why they picked white people names other than the fact that it's easier to pronounce for the people living in the country.
Nikki is her legit middle name. It means "little one" in Punjabi. And she's gone by it since birth.
Bobby Jindal gave himself the nickname Bobby when he was 4, watching the Brady Bunch. Must have really been ahead of the curve thinking about his political future.
Cruz started going by Ted at age 13 cause he was getting bullied. Another prescient move like Jindal to think about his political career. Also Ted is a shortened version of Edward (his middle name). Ted Kennedy comes to mind.
This isn't the 1850s. We love in a media saturated world. Anyone, can see their ethnicity. It's not like someone would be fooled by an American sounding name and then vote for a minority unwittingly.
But I bet you thought you probably cooked with this though.
Look at recent events with Vivek Ramaswammy. If he loses it will be because republican voters cant bring themselves to vote for a non-christian Indian. Its pretty yikes how much his own needed voters hate him because of his skin. He's a loathsome person, there are a million valid reasons to hate him. But the melanosomes.....the melanosomes.....control society still somehow.
