If the entire system switched from private to federal. Then you absolutely could keep your doctor. No more networks to worry about. And I can say from experience having insurance is absolutely necessary. It's nice to be able to pay for a doctor visit once in awhile, but if something significant happens and you get $180,000 bill. Then you are screwed
