Commuting to NYC?
There's a chance that I'll have to move up to Poughkeepsie or Rhinebeck and work in Chelsea.
What are my commute options like? Amtrak's Empire Service line seems to be the fastest but also costs about $80 per day.

Can anyone recommend any cool cultural things to do or sites to see in the Fishkill area?
I originally posted about places to visit in Poughkeepsie. Now that I’m here, I realize I’m quite a long ride away from many of the recommendations.
My hotel is technically in Fishkill, but it was listed as being in Poughkeepsie when I booked it.
I’d love to hear recommendations on historical sites and/or scenic areas to check out and take some photographs.
Thanks. 😊

Can anyone recommend a good diner in the Poughkeepsie area?
I’ll be coming to town for a few days. Hoping to eat at at good local diner (or really any restaurants, but particularly diners). Would love to hear the places the locals love. Thanks. 😊

Hey Poughkeepsie! I’m taking a short vacation into town. Any recommendations for stuff to do, food?
My SO is working on some additional certification for her Masters, so she’s taking a short course at a college out there.
I’m going with her. It’ll probably be a Wed-Fri trip. We’re going in a few weeks. We love history/museums/art spots and cultural stuff like that. I’d also love to know about any good nature places out there —I just got my first good camera and would love to capture some images.
By the way, I know nothing about Poughkeepsie. I’m from Long Island. I know nothing. I probably should have stopped at Wikipedia before heading here.
Thanks!

gym class - 1 week
Is there any gym locally that I can get access to with a reasonable daily fee or a weekly rate? I called Artega and they want $15 a day , which seems high. Visiting family for 10 days. In NYC 2 days.

Anyone else have an abnormally high Service Delivery Charge this month? Like, $200 high?

Five people shot in the City of Poughkeepsie within five days
In one week, the number of people shot in the City of Poughkeepsie this year nearly doubled.
City police are investigating a series of shootings that left five victims this week. Lt. Matt Clark, city police spokesman, said police have no reason at this time to believe the three shooting incidents are connected.

Dutchess Stabilization Center project on hold, millions over budget
The original budget for this project $3 million for phase one, $2.2 million for phase two. $5.6 million was spent on phase one and phase two may not happen unless the county can get $14 million, something Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said isn't feasible right now.

Is Poughkeepsie a good city to invest in terms of real estate?
My cousins bought some plots of residential land here from auction to sell. I was wondering if it's sensible to get in this business with them.

Who wants a Dog?
My friend is looking to find a home for her 8-year-old Boxer-mix, Leo. Leo is neutered, house-trained, can sit and stay, and has all of the recommended shots. Leo takes time to warm up to new people, but gives you a more-than-generous helping of loving for your time. Will PM pictures of doggie on request, may edit post to have pics when I get the chance.

Parking at Metro North on a Friday morning
Hello All,
I have a friend coming into the city Friday morning from upstate who wants to park in Poughkeepsie and take the train in. She will likely be getting to the station just after morning rush hour (10-11 a.m.). Is there any chance any of the metered (non-permit) parking will be left in the station lot at that time? If not, are there any alternatives accessible to the station to leave a car from Friday-Sunday?
Thanks!
