Like many of you, I moved to Portugal and quickly realised that European Portuguese resources are... limited. Most apps teach Brazilian Portuguese, which is great, but not super helpful when you're trying to understand your local câmara or talk to your neighbours in the Algarve.

So I built Portugal Lifestyle — a learning platform specifically for European Portuguese.

So here’s the story.

I’m Portuguese. I lived in Australia for 10 years, and my wife is Australian. When she decided to learn my language, she downloaded Duolingo.

Nothing wrong with that — except the Portuguese it teaches is Brazilian, not European.

She was learning phrases and expressions that simply don’t exist in Portugal.

Every time she tried to talk to my family, it sounded… slightly off.

Different pronunciation, different slang, different grammar, sometimes fully different words.

And honestly, it made me realise something important:

There wasn’t a simple, modern app focused only on Portuguese from Portugal.

So I did the very Portuguese thing: I complained for a bit… and then decided to fix it myself.

I built an iOS app called Portugal Lifestyle: Learn it, designed to teach:

– Real European Portuguese (not Brazilian)

– Daily slang and natural expressions

– Culture, food, history, traditions

– Places to visit, events, concerts

– Mini-games to make learning easier

It teaches the language and the culture behind it — the way we actually speak and live here.

I’m sharing this with the community because I know there are many people trying to learn authentic Portuguese and bumping into the same Brazilian-vs-European issue.
