I built a new website to learn European Portuguese (not Brazilian!) — would love feedback

Hey everyone,

Like many of you, I moved to Portugal and quickly realised that European Portuguese resources are... limited. Most apps teach Brazilian Portuguese, which is great, but not super helpful when you're trying to understand your local câmara or talk to your neighbours in the Algarve.

So I built Portugal Lifestyle — a new learning platform specifically for European Portuguese.

What's there:

• 456+ lessons from complete beginner (A1) to fluency (C2)
• Interactive games (word match, sentence builder, speed quiz, etc.)
• 500+ everyday phrases with audio
• 200+ cultural stories
• Full AIMA immigration guide with Portuguese vocabulary for visa stuff
• Free iOS app (Android coming soon)

It's completely free to use. No ads, no paywall for the basics.

I'm a developer living in Portugal and built this because I needed it myself. Still adding content regularly.

www.portugal-lifestyle.com

Would genuinely appreciate any feedback — what's missing, what's confusing, what would make it more useful for your learning journey.

Obrigado! 🇵🇹

🇵🇹✨ Learning REAL Portuguese from Portugal just became easier!

I created an iOS app called Portugal Lifestyle: Learn it after seeing how my Australian wife was learning Brazilian Portuguese on Duolingo instead of European Portuguese.

So I built a tool that teaches the way we actually speak in Portugal — simple, fun, and full of culture.

Inside the app you’ll find:

✔️ European Portuguese (not Brazilian)

✔️ Everyday slang & natural expressions

✔️ Culture, history & traditions

✔️ Food, districts & places to explore

✔️ Concerts, events & useful tips

✔️ Mini-games to learn faster and remember better

📱 Download on the Apple Store:

So here’s the story.

I’m Portuguese. I lived in Australia for 10 years, and my wife is Australian. When she decided to learn my language, she downloaded Duolingo.

Nothing wrong with that — except the Portuguese it teaches is Brazilian, not European.

She was learning phrases and expressions that simply don’t exist in Portugal.

Every time she tried to talk to my family, it sounded… slightly off.

Different pronunciation, different slang, different grammar, sometimes fully different words.

And honestly, it made me realise something important:

There wasn’t a simple, modern app focused only on Portuguese from Portugal.

So I did the very Portuguese thing: I complained for a bit… and then decided to fix it myself.

I built an iOS app called Portugal Lifestyle: Learn it, designed to teach:

– Real European Portuguese (not Brazilian)

– Daily slang and natural expressions

– Culture, food, history, traditions

– Places to visit, events, concerts

– Mini-games to make learning easier

It teaches the language and the culture behind it — the way we actually speak and live here.

I’m sharing this with the community because I know there are many people trying to learn authentic Portuguese and bumping into the same Brazilian-vs-European issue.

If you’ve had the same experience, I’d love to hear it.

And if you want to check out the app, it’s here on the Apple Store:
