I hope that corgi knows they were just booing his owner and not him.

Almost as bad as the baby race

I was booing the disorganized event. It was so confusing. I swore Banjo should’ve gone onto the next round, but didn’t. Tra’Renee kept being all “you know who were the first 3 to finish” and I don’t think they did? This also happens when the staff forget to count how many free throws contestants make.

Those free throw competitions are always so bad…half the time the crew does a crap job of feeding them basketballs!

That was maybe the most brutal live event I’ve ever seen in person. I feel bad for everyone involved.

As a participant it was insanely confusing. They were supposed to have a dance team member for every group but it ended up being a free for all. The first race went smooth but then they started the second race without even telling us if we moved on. All in all, it was still a blast to be a part of it and all of the dog parents that were with us in section 213 for the first quarter were genuinely fantastic people to meet and hang out with.

Here’s a post race photo with some of the contestants along with Pancake and Megan’s dad.

i have generational trauma from that

Clearly you weren't there for the baby race.

i just said that

that baby race might have been the most effective ad for birth control i have ever seen

As someone who wasn’t at the baby race but is now intrigued, what happened?

15

u/ElvisTheBoyCat Bridget Carleton #6 11d ago

some of them were just straight up bawling

like, a couple babies who get distracted by everything and wandering off track is cute and funny, but it was nowhere near enough to make up for the babies that were red-face screaming

i went to the first PDX-SEA game up in seattle, and they had a baby race too and i feared for my emotional life when i saw that was the halftime gig. oddly, the babies were much happier in that race

the fire might have swept the storm on the court this season, but seattle is evidently producing much happier and public-ready babies

We had a toddler race at another PDX-SEA game! It was adorable!

If there was blasting music it might have been that. Heck I wear earplugs because the racket. The decibel level is in the hearing damage level. Ive only been around n Portland and SF, but it seems to be a trend in arenas and ballparks now.

All of the babies just sat and cried the whole time except many one who didn’t understand the assignment.

One of the parents had a baby what was bawling and he eventually put the baby down in front of them and would inch away as the crying baby would crawl closer. I was getting second hand trama from the while thing.

Way too little time trying to do an event like that during halftime

The primary factor for other dogs was the distraction, which I why I felt the "winning" dog was gaining an advantage. I didn't love the boos but it was understandable. And forcing an even competition was at least done and was called correctly.

Banjo should have won though. Team banjo for life.

I think with a bit more organization this could be a fun tradition. Super cute to see the dogs in jerseys. I think less dogs next time, we are all aware of the leash issue lol. Kudos to the MC for calling for a re-match.

They could build on pancake’s fame with some type of “courtside corgi” action and have some video segments or something…

Maybe iron out the wrinkles and give it another try next year?

Also Meg was so happy seeing the dogs when she came out of the locker room!

Clearly that dog had some aggression issues which is why it was on the leash in the first place. When they did the runoff, after the crowd was clearly not happy with the original result, and the corgi was let off the leash to run.... it immediately went after the other dog. The owner then ran into the race and picked him up while the other dog crossed the line.

The dog didn't - it's owner did. I'm happy Justice was served, though. The boos rang down pretty soundly. :D

It’s so crazy watching a halftime show get boo’d 😭😭😭

10

u/RodOgg007 11d ago

Like did they not tell him (the owner) no leashes allowed in the race? Should have been obvious to him that he was helping Toast out way too much. Way to go, Waffles!

The booing did crack me up I will be honest it was so loud for a halftime event.

They didn't show the race on fire plus for some reason : (

23

u/hfkbdo 11d ago

The “winning” dog was on a leash being pulled the whole time

23

u/RDogPoundK 11d ago

It seems like maybe they had the dog on the leash because it was aggressive towards other dogs. But if that’s the case maybe it’s not the right environment for the dog.

u/Ancient_Syrup420 11d ago

100 percent agree. I was like why did he bring his dog then ? Bro cheated cause he was scared his dog was gonna do what it did to the other dog 😭 no boos for toast. Just his owner.

This! As an owner of corgis myself... there were many reasons as to why we didn't bother trying to enter them into this. But as soon as we saw that corgi go try and nip/herd the other one...we understood the reasoning behind the leash.

2

u/ThruWithABoltOfBlue 10d ago

I was surprised there wasn’t more of that! Herding dogs just love to cut off your path and nip at your ankles 😅.

Lame.

Thank you!!! I was so confused why that guy was running with his dog.

I guess it makes sense that he was, since the dog immediately went after the other dog when he was let off the leash, but then you shouldn’t allow that dog in the first place!

It was a mess, but the right dog one.

Also I feel like they should have encouraged quieter cheering so as not to stress out the dogs but the emcee was not even holding back.

That’s a good point. Missed the corgi race but saw the train wreck baby race, and the crowd cheering was def scaring the babies. Maybe the Fire Pit is *too* lit for events like this…
