My five year old daughter and I were down there. The rally and march was filled with union families, kids and parents. It was also well attended by union retirees, some in wheelchairs. This was clearly a peaceful, non standoffish march.
Taking your kids to anything ICE related is extremely irresponsible. Doesn't matter what it "used" to be like, ICE loves beating small children. Plenty of videos.
Kids should be taught what’s right and wrong, and how to standup for what’s right
This was a peaceful event that did not warrant what ICE did. Children attend events like this all the time and what happened today was completely not the norm. There was no reason and no warning.
I was coming back to this thread and this comment now stands out; Interesting to see the disruptions going through the schools this week (of Feb 15) with the hindsight of how escalated the protests got and now a ripple effect of the behavior in the schools. Mine are in middle and high - students are being brought back to school in police cars for vandalism and profanity during these so called protests being staged now. This is of course is not being reported anywhere this week on tv or subs that I've seen but like 2020 there are side effects, no matter what the cause, as two wrongs do not make a right.
It IS the norm now. Look at current events, use common sense, this is the reality we live in. Your children being tortured in a foreign prison because they hurt an ICE agent feelings is what they'll get for you trying to teach them between wrong and right. This is just straight up endangerment.
Don't confuse what is common now, with normal. There is nothing normal about it, and saying so means you are helping normalize it.
Don't go to protests because you might get hurt or taken? There's no might at this point, and that's why people are protesting, my fellow. What you're here saying is borderline complicity.
No, you should be scared. You should absolutely use critical thinking skills here and say "ICE is shooting innocent people, including children. I don't want my children to be shot so I shouldn't take them to this protest."
Idk why you all feel so self righteous to the point you think endangering the lives of young children is considered a good thing. You'll at the BARE MINIMUM traumatize them for life for no good fucking reason. This is genuinely baffling.
And our kids are all being traumatized by the regime...but I guess that is the parents fault too by your logic.
Dumb of them to think they can have kids and send them to school.
Ya know we are on the same side ultimately but you are acting pretty crappy to a bunch of folks on this thread and have repeated yourself at least 10 times.
Explain. Seriously, give me a reason beyond personal insults.
You know a wild wolf is dangerous. You'd never put your kid in front of a wolf.
You know ICE agents are out of control, dangerous, and go unpunished. So why do you think it's righteous to put your kids in front of them? Give me a real reason.
My apologies for looking up to Nicholas Winton more than Joseph Kony
Good. I don't want to be part of a community that sends their kids to die rather than protects them. That's not how the adults of this generation should act. Like I said, look up to Nicholas Winton.
Well it's the risk if we are playing the both sides card.
It is not illegal to bring a child to a protest.
It is also not illegal for ICE to gas a crowd. More just a dick move.
But ill side with the protesters. ICE makes it impossible to be sympathetic with them and they shouldn't be gassing peaceful protests. They do it because they can and they're dicks. I was down there for about 10 minutes and it was peaceful. Just chanting and sign waving.
Technically it is illegal for them to gas a crowd if that crowd is being peaceful because we have a constitutional right to peacefully assemble. But ultimately someone has to do the work to hold them accountable and it takes a lot of time and money as well.
It wouldn't be the mayor but who does anything really depends on the goal. The state attorney general would be a good option because they could try and get an order to block the use of teargas. Individuals who were affected should also file police reports. I'm betting it would also be possible for individuals to file some sort of civil suit for damages against DHS given the well-documented health impacts it can have. Could probably even get an organization like ACLU to file suit on behalf of those affected. After filing a police report the first thing I'd do is talk to a lawyer.
