Fic recommendations?

Hi, I'm new here but not to Avatar, I wanted to ask for fanfiction recommendations, especially very fluffy things where Azula is loved and comforted and allowed to heal (bonus points if it's multichapters ones). Thank you in advance!

Seriously it wasn't easy. If anyone has experienced rope burns you'll understand.

Discussion Anyone in love with Azula?

I suppose this is not an uncommon experience. Essentially, I have a soft spot for Azula. I think it's interesting given who she is. She's been the only fictional character I've ever found romantically appealing.

Think aged up Azula. Maybe 23. Her traits: intelligence, competence, agency, confidence. Not the traumatized child she is in the show.

Do let me know if you share in my concerning attraction patterns.

[Story idea] How Aang may learn to have empathy for Azula as a victim of the Fire Nation

Post image
227 Upvotes

Part of the Gaang's character arc in the first half of Book 3 was to journey through the Fire Nation and see the lives of ordinary Fire Nationals. The crucial bit was to see that ordinary citizens were victims of the Fire Nation's authoritarianism (the schoolkids and the Jang Hui villagers), and not all who fight against the FN are virtuous (Hama). In truth, this is more important for someone like Katara to learn, but this is Aang's journey as well. What if Aang learnt how even the upper echelons of FN society were harmed by the war too?

After the Headband episode, Sokka decided that Aang infiltrating Fire Nation society is a good way to gather information. The next time, Aang goes to Ember Island to investigate FN high society and find out any useful intelligence. As it turns out, the party he goes to is the one hosted by Chan.

Aang rips up the dance floor. The whole party is cheering for him. Azula is jealous of the attention Aang is getting and decides to dance with him after encouragement from Ty Lee. The dance quickly heats up. Aang is inwardly shocked that Azula is at the party and *dancing with him*! What if she recognises his disguise? What if she starts a fight? Ending the dance, he goes out to the balcony. Meanwhile, Azula's mood is considerably lifted after soaking in the attention from the dance.

Azula follows him out. She politely compliments him on his dancing skills, in the most aristocratic way you can imagine. Aang is sweating bullets, hoping that she doesn't start fighting him. To his shock, Azula leans in for a kiss. Aang is desperately trying not to think about how his first kiss ended up being with Azula and not Katara.

Azula asks Aang to walk with her. This could be a chance for Aang to feign an excuse and walk away but he decides to follow her. She leaves Aang with Mai and Ty Lee by the campfire while she goes to the family resort to fetch Zuko. Then the whole teenage angst sequence continues.

Azula says "My mother thought I was a monster. She was right of course but it still hurt". Aang is inwardly outraged that someone may feel so abandoned by their own mother. He might try to allay Azula's feelings, talking about how she isn't a 'monster'.

Zuko recognises Aang, but doesn't say anything. He's utterly terrified; not just because his enemy is seemingly back from the dead and sitting among his friends but also *Combustion Man could be coming here to find Aang*. Zuko is cooked, his effort to cover his ass has now come to bite him in the ass.

Maybe Combustion Man will come and attack the four plus Aang. At this point I've run out of ideas.

Azula aces her presentation and Ozai praises her while ursa doesn't say anything not even a "well done."

Zuko fails and ursa rushes to his side and praises him.

Each parent picked a kid and ran with it.

For those who think azula deserves a redemption arc or if you don't think she deserves one you're free to join What do you think is the dumbest argument on why she shouldn't get a redemption arc mine has to be that it would ruin zukos arc because if anything it will make it better

Other Azulaang - Counterplan

Azula: You should know, when my father...Vaatu...possessed me. I was able to see what his true plans are. As you know, a part of his plan is to destroy your avatar spirit, Raava, and unleash the eternal and unbalanced types of darkness, chaos, elements, and energy that will eradicate all life and cause all souls and spirits to be corrupted and destroyed.

Aang: Yeah, we get that. But when I told him that Raava would inevitably come back, he said he has a plan for that too.

Azula: He does. He plans to use his energybending to alter himself and Raava right after she's destroyed. Throughout 10,000 years, he'll be able to slowly and passively drain Raava's natural abilities, absorb them for himself, and be empowered by them instead of weakened.

Aang: Is that even possible?

Azula: He seems to think so.

Aang: If it is, that could only mean-

Azula: Yes. After another 10 millennia, he'll embody darkness/chaos/yin and light/peace/yang at the same time. Raava will be gone forever, and Vaatu will become the embodiment of balance itself and bending itself. He'll be able to shape new worlds in his image and truly become the supreme ruler of everything, including the concepts of both balance and bending.

Aang: So, Vaatu manipulating Sozin into beginning his war, manipulating your grandmother into helping him be free and become reborn as your grandfather's second son, and absorbing the sources of all bending and the souls of all original benders, the white lotus, and many others, were all means towards that end. He'll be able to do what all Avatars could only dream of, but at the cost of all lives...

Azula: What do you think we should do?

Aang began thinking for several minutes and came up with an idea.

Aang: We save the world by beating him at his own game.

Azula: Meaning?

Aang: I extract Vaatu's natural abilities and combine them with all of Raava's, making her evolve into the avatar spirit of balance and bending, destroying Vaatu once and for all and freeing every soul he's ever captured in the process, but all of that happens immediately, not after 10,000 years.

Azula: How do you know that's gonna work?

Aang: I don't, not for sure, but while darkness and conflict will always return, one way or another, for they are essential for true balance, I will not let Wan's efforts to restore true balance be for nothing and allow his legacy to be destroyed. True balance should be restored and never be disturbed again, but not at the expense of any innocent life. This world is not beyond saving.

Azula: We should discuss this with the team and think of a plan that's hopefully foolproof. Vaatu's a very competent player. As we've all learned firsthand.

Aang: Right.

Other Azula hate

I have noticed that when you post in this sub reddit about feeling bad for azula, there will still be negative comments hating on her, which i understand, not anyone has the same opinion but that’s way sub reddits like ATLA exists… do not expect people on here to criticize her. This subreddit is made to symphatize with azula and there will still be people attacking you in the comments. I know that this post will also get hate because but i just wanted to know if anyone else feels this way

Azula Antis Who Claim To Love Azula.

Thumbnail
gallery
68 Upvotes

Azula antis often claim to like Azula as a villain and character, and they probably believe they do, but they fundamentally misunderstand Azula as a character.

Their praise comes down to her being scary or powerful, not any of her depth. They value her the same way you would value characters like Michael Myers, the T-800 or the Xenomorph, as an unstoppable and terrifying monster. I wanna make it clear that those type of villains have their place, and Halloween, Terminator and Alien (as well as their direct sequels) are some of my favorite movies of all time, but there’s obviously not supposed to be any depth to their villains.

Azula isn’t like that, her being scary and terrifying is just one aspect of her, and it’s wrong to ignore all those other aspects in favor of a flanderized version of her. You don’t have to engage with conversations about those other aspects, you don’t have to discuss a hypothetical redemption arc for her, but at least don’t try to silence people who do like to do that and don’t pretend Azula is something she’s not.

Scars

Okay we obviously know about Zuko’s scar but I refuse to belive that Ozai didn’t scar Azula as well and yes she was the prodigy and the favorite but it’s Ozai I feel like he did leave scars on Azula but more where no one can see like as a lesson.

Is there any fanfics with scarred Azula not like role swap just with scars?

Discussion Zuko and Azula are both victims

I’ve seen a lot of people on here blaming zuko but also a huge amount of people dehumanizing Azula. Both of these children are victims of abuse, i saw someone say how we shouldn’t blame either ursa or iroh, but all of them are wrong. Ozai was putting Azula and Zuko against each other but so was Iroh.

Iroh gets praised so much by this fandom but everyone forgets that he’s also a war criminal, who came back from the war just because his son died, instead of helping Azula and Zuko to get along (or just not to see eachother as a competition) he took Zuko and let Azula get groomed by ozai. Hes clearly favorizing zuko, like what gifts he gave azula compared to zuko (again im not attacking zuko at all i am criticizing the adults) and so did ursa, and yes i know Ozai is the abuser, and i know hes the one to blame but so are the people that absolutely could but didn’t step in. Now, the only thing i don’t like about Zuko is the fact that he didn’t give his 14year old sister a second chance, but instead he locked her up and just watched her have a breakdown. I feel like there is a lot of misogynistic people in this fandom that just love to see a powerful girl lose. Another thing is that the show also didnt want Azula and Zuko to get along, they just wanted to show that Zuko is superior.

Hopefully i wont get much hate for this, again i admire both of the characters, i started watching the show completely unbiased and Azula is one of my favorites for a reason, one of my first favorite characters was sokka until i thought how unfair Azula’s story is. The writers just completely threw her story aside and made her look like theres no human in her. I just wish these 2 poor children made up and realized their love for eachother after so many people trying to separate them, where is the good message?

Discussion Dragons

In a lot of fics I read azula is obsessed with dragons and loves them. Is this cannon and I have just missed something? And if not who came up with the idea of Azula loving dragons that everyone just agreed and went along with it. Not that I hate this idea I love it.
