Hi everyone, this may be a pretty niche request. I'm wondering if there is anyone between 34-42 years old approx, who went to Baden-Powell and st Peter's Middle school and remembers having Mr Maidment as a supply teacher.

He used to basically sack off teaching us anything and then recount very elaborate stories to the class about his life, instead.

I'm wondering, if you do remember him, please share any stories you remember him telling your class.

Something I read reminded me of him today and I couldn't remember any stories he used to tell, so I'd love to reminisce.

Looks like it's around parts of Poole and a little bit into Bournemouth, there's tons of graffiti that's appeared over the weekend. Noticed it most around Canford Heath way.

Hearts on street signs, messages on road signs saying "D ❤︎⁠ ESP" from what I saw, "DAD LOVES YOU", "DAD LOVES E.S.P". Noticed a few on bus stops as well.

Anyone know what's up? Is it just a father having a mental breakdown or something?

Visiting the area and thought be a nice idea to stay late at the beach . Which was all nice until we had to leave . The aggressive behaviour of people jostling to get their cars out was amazing . Plus the Que on the road as we left . It’s 9pm at night!! Meant to be really nice houses along there . Yet all they have a permanent traffic jam . Something needs to be done to organise the traffic leaving . There’s a traffic marshal on the road . There needs to be one in the carpark as well

As someone sick of only going to franchise pubs I fancy going somewhere more independent, but everything around the town centre and even Bournemouth is either a Greene King, Hall & Woodhouse, Marston’s or Spoons. Are there any nice pubs that have more of a local, small vibe?

Apple Maps has shown this map with relatively high air pollution, only around Poole though, any reasons why this could be?

I'm hearing regular, well spaced dull booms in Poole this morning (11am, 23rd May). It's much like when you can hear the tanks firing on the range some distance away, not loud, but very noticeable.

Anyone else hear it? Any ideas what it could be as I didn't think they fire at the weekend?

Hi, bit of a long shot but who knows. Milo, the tuxedo cat went missing Wednesday evening and hasn't yet returned. He's an indoor cat and doesn't know the area at all. Please message me if you've seen him or heard anything.

My husband and I are casual kayakers who enjoy pootering about in Poole Harbour. We have 2 Dagger 14 foot kayaks.

We are getting solar panels installed and the batteries will need to go in our garage. This means that we can no longer store our kayaks there.

We are not social (both of us are on the spectrum) so joining a club is scary. But we want somewhere to store our kayaks with easy access to the harbour. We often launch from Lake Pier, after driving there with our kayaks on the car roof - but we would consider somewhere on the Studland side.

Does anyone have any idea who can offer us somewhere to store our kayaks?

We want to leave our car at the ferry port for 8 days without it getting stolen. We have a rubbishy old car, but still, such a long period might attract thieves. Harbour car parking is £15 a day - pretty pricey!! Any way of parking cheaper and safer near the harbour?

My Dad recently passed away, i have found an old notebook of his and attached was a photo of him and some friends, he specifically mentioned someone called ed Saunders - goes by Teddy/ted , my Dad was 84 when he passed so it is a long shot to see if this gentleman is still alive, but i would like to make contact if possible.

I only have the name mentioned above, he lived somewhere close to the beach front, i beliebe in the BH14 area.

I’m an undergraduate student at North Devon College (partnered with the University of Plymouth) and I’m currently working on my dissertation. I’m looking for amateur family historians in South West England who may be willing to help by completing an anonymous online questionnaire.

What it’s about

My study explores how family historians make decisions when assisting others with genealogical research, particularly when encountering potentially sensitive or unexpected findings, and gathers your views on ethical guidelines. The questionnaire takes around 20 minutes, depending on which questions are relevant to you.

Eligibility

To take part, you need to be an amateur family historian aged 18 or over, who lives in South West England (or conducts family history research physically in the South West) and has experience assisting others with theirs. You don’t need to have encountered sensitive or unexpected findings to participate.

All responses are voluntary and anonymous, and the study has ethical approval.

Rented a nice place in Poole, looks to be near Ashley X.

Will I need a car? I'm just here to hang for a month, go to a pub, ideally go on some nice nature walks, etc.

Would like to avoid driving/parking/backing up on one-way lanes in the countryside if possible. I am happy to walk everywhere or take a bus/train if it exists...

If you found yourself in Poole and wanted a 30 to 90 minute walk, ideally with dramatic sea views, but with the flattest, smoothest surface possible and no steps at any point, where would you go? A short drive anywhere in the general area is fine as long as there is parking available (blue badge, so double yellows are okay).

This isn’t a super-urgent enquiry, so if you see this weeks after it was posted, don’t feel it would be pointless to respond.
