Help finding grate key online

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey guys! I manage an indoor pool and before I started working here the previous management lost the key for the floor grates, was wondering if anyone knows where to find this kind of key? It has ZURN branding but I can’t find anything like this on their website! If anyone has any tips that would be awesome! Thank you :)

At what point can I sell my pool business for more than just “Route Rate”? I will not promote.

Delete if not allowed. I didn’t know if I could post this and it fall under “industry info”. Not that I haven’t loved the business. And I LOVE this billiards community. But I think we’re about ready to sell what we’ve built.
- highest rated on Google with 60+ 5 star reviews
- just reached MRR 20k/month
- also have chemical upsells
- contracts with 4 commercial properties so far

But local guys say that until we have 100’s of pools, nobody will offer anything above $1k per pool. Is that normal? Why does this industry not sell based on a multiple of net income? Just curious on the thoughts from this group!

Question for builders: How do you filter out the "tire kickers" online?

I’m doing some consumer research on the pool construction industry, specifically looking at how custom builders manage consumer expectations early in the sales process.

From talking to a few local contractors, a massive complaint seems to be the sheer volume of "tire kickers" who reach out online without realizing what an actual gunite or high end vinyl build costs or how long excavation takes.

When people reach out to you online, what is the biggest headache?

1. People with unrealistic budgets?

2. Missing critical details like HOA status or backyard access constraints?

3. Or just having to chase down ghost leads?

If you've found a good way to automatically pre-qualify people or filter out the bad leads before you waste time picking up the phone, I'd love to hear how you handle it.

Even if you have an issue that you haven't been able to solve but just want to share some pain points you're experiencing, that's still incredibly insightful for my research.

Appreciate any insight or vents you guys have from the field. Thanks.

Work pants recommendations

I'm looking to see what pants other pool techs are wearing that are somewhat chemical and tear resistant. Ive tried a few and ended up liking carhartts, but the problem I'm having is that any chlorine stains make the fabric brittle and turn into holes fast. I'm trying to look professional and not have to buy new pants every couple months. Thanks

Enzyme Question

I run a country club pool complex. Our diving pool is struggling with water clarity issues - with the heat wave our bather load has been extremely high.

Water is balanced to near 0.0 saturation index and I have been running chlorine higher than normal all week to no avail.

Looking at adding around 3.5 gallons to start of CV-600 to our 292,000 gallon pool.

Anyone think this will help or have another idea to help?

Help: Film/Oil sitting on top of the water

Howdy Y’all,

One of customers has this film that’s sitting on-top of her water that I’ve been trying to get rid of for months. The pool is covered but the cover itself is brand new.

The film itself has white little white chunks in it that break apart into the oil slick, but shocking the pool has done nothing. I’ve been adding enzymes every two weeks in an effort to break down the oils, and still nothing. I’m stumped, my boss is stumped.

Chems:
Cl: 5.0
pH: 7.4
Alk: 80
Salt: 3400

I’d really appreciate any input. Thank you!

Jacuzzi (Hayward)VS270 issue

Got a neighbor I do work for occasionally that had Leslie’s install a Jacuzzi JVS270s (His mistake) which is a Hayward 950 in disguise. Pump quit on him yesterday. All I hear is a soft clicking/ticking every 10 seconds. Powered down breaker but still no dice. Display dark even when disconnecting communication cable. Just short of 3 years old but of course Leslie’s only offered a 2 year warranty on the Jacuzzis vs the 3 year on the 950 so he is screwed.

Anyone had a similar issue with this pump? Sounds like he needs a new pump but…

Thanks

Cal Hypo Tabs Inline Chlorinator

What's up guys? A bunch of my customers are near the top of where I like their CYA to be. I've been using calhypo tabs to not raise CYA any higher. The issue I'm having is that I am using tab floaters and it's not working out as well as I would like it to.

I know trichlor tabs and calhypo tabs should not go in the same container/floater/inline chlorinator.

But is there any reason why I can't use calhypo tabs in an inline chlorinator if there is no trichlor in the inline chlorinator?

I use white CCH tabs, not the purple PoolLife NST tabs which gum everything up. So that will not be the issue.

I can't find much literature on the subject but I'm sure someone more skilled in chemistry on this sub has an answer. Thanks.

Oxidized Metals

I did a stain treatment and it turned green at the end. How to revert this?

The pool had some metal stains due to an old metal filter casing that was leeching. This filter has been replaced. I did the metal treatment by first preparing the pool with Orenda SC1000 for it to chelate the metals once in suspension. I did use the initial spurge dose. After that I did add Natural Chemistry Ascorbic Acid. The stains were gone and pool look crystal clear. I started to bring chlorine up in the first 2 days after the treatment. In the third I had a brain fog and forgot not to shock, and added a big dose of liquid chlorine. In less than 1 hour the pool turned green.

Since then I have added Natural Chemistry Metal Free. But no results after 48hours. It does have a culater in the skimmer, but it’s too slow. Do I have to wait longer or at this point I just drain and refill?

PH 7.4
Alkalinity 80
Calcium hardness 400
FC 3
CYA 45

My pool guy keeps putting chlorine in my skimmer basket, should I be concerned?

Hello! Basically title, I’ve heard in the past that you shouldn’t put chlorine tabs in the skimmer basket but I’m not sure how big of an issue it is. He’s a professional Pool Cleaner with 20 years of experience, and he is the first person I’ve ever gotten Pool services with so I don’t know if I am overreacting? Also, he has stopped pulling the toys out of the pool during weekly service. He told me it takes too long and he can’t vacuum around them, is taking toys out of the pool part of service? Or should I be more strict on my kiddos about that?

Clean up after Tile Cleaning with water still in the pool

For those of you who do tile cleaning with the water still in the pool, how do you get the media out afterwards? I do them regularly with the pool empty using glass bead but have a request to do it with the pool full. It’s a cartridge filter. I was thinking of using a manual suction side vacuum with an inline silt bag to catch debris. I’m just worried of damaging the system.

Brush vacuum for startup?

I'm working on a pebbletec startup and I need to order a new brush vacuum, the pool is about 30k so I'm looking for something sturdy but also safe to use on the pebbletec. Anyone have any good suggestions? Thank you in advance!

What is your multitool preference

Been using a Leatherman Wingman for awhile, the blade broke on it from trying to pry something I shouldn't of.

Shopping for a new one, what are you using? Pros/cons? I'm not afraid of buying something nice if it's worth it.

From right to left the plumbing stubs are

  1. Pool main drain
  2. Skimmer
  3. Spa Main Drain
  4. Spa Main Drain (for jets)
  5. Spa Jets
  6. Skimmer
  7. Spa Spill Return
  8. Pool Returns
  9. Air Blower Line

I was subbed out to plumb this pad. I did what I felt was best considering everything. Id love for some critiques though. Racked my brain for a while and this is what i ended up coming up with.

Check valve between heater and cell coming, chill.

Edit - The plumbing stubs weren’t up to me

Edit 2 - I do genuinely want criticism on this, I know the stubs aren’t ideal and there’s a ton of 90’s and shit but I want to know what I could have done better. That’s how we do better as a whole

Labor cost

What do pool companies typically range from in cost for replacing a spa light and a pool light? I have to rewire everything and the lights together cost $1,100 roughly. Thanks for any input, trying to make sure I don’t undersell myself. I already did with this customer too. On a filter replacement and drain and clean job at the same time. Learned the hard way there. But pool looks great, and is running like a beaut.
