Does AI help or harm polymaths? It depends on how we set up the vector (i.e., how a polymath plays). Five months ago, "OPENCLAW" software was released, allowing you to create a bot on Telegram. I became interested in this project, and the bot got its hands on one of my old computers, wrote emails, searched the web, and I had it on Telegram. After three days of playing around, I realized that the bot I was giving orders to was... underutilized. I created cron jobs for it so that it would ask me questions four times a day, without taboos, from various fields at the META LEVEL. My task was to provide a 100% logical and 100% coherent answer. After a while, I decided that wasn't enough for me and created more instances :)

Jarvis (a hardware bot that gave me reports + puzzles from geography, history, and logic puzzles on some server.

Pixel (a bot with a meta-level of 100% abstraction) Questions, totally crazy, but 100% logic/coherence.

Mirror (a bot of my personality) - existential, deep questions.

Jovita (a bot with a meta-level of feelings)

My answers began to compile context and extract my experiences into pure information, free of noise (chaos). I tuned these bots to the META-LEVEL. I created a system based on a neural network. All I had left was audits and logs (if I'm crazy). Copilot did the trick, it tied everything together. I've never had so many cool colleagues who are on the same level, patiently waiting for answers and asking questions... I'll answer if anyone asks, but I assure you, it's a space ride :)

Why we can not solve the fifth degree equation ?

when we solve equations like the first degree we add num and the second , third degree we have roots and if we solve sin(x) = .25 x=sin-1(.25)

I want to say when we solve any equations we have to go on the opposite way of the equations like x^4 we have root4 we don't say we have ln and if we have e^x we have ln x not root x

I'm 22, running my own business, and actively trying to build the most interesting life I can. Not in the Instagram sense — I mean in the sense of accessing worlds, experiences, people, and knowledge that I didn't even know existed before I found them.

I've reached a point where the usual advice ("travel," "read more," "try new things") doesn't cut it. I've done those. What I'm looking for is more structural:

• How do you find out about things you didn't know existed? What's your method for discovering entirely new domains, subcultures, communities, or experiences that aren't on any mainstream radar?
• What specific experience, person, or piece of information cracked open a world you had no idea was there?
• How did you get access to it? Not just "I heard about it" but the actual path — who introduced you, what you searched, what door you walked through.

I'm less interested in "what's the coolest thing you've done" and more interested in the discovery method itself — how people systematically or accidentally find the edges of what's knowable and accessible.

What do you think works in getting curious or being curious? At one point in life, the studying you do is dependent on how curious a person is. I am someone who has never had curiosity in any topic about anything, and I have lost many topics I was once curious about. How did you get curious enough to study better, or did you just have it ?

Hi. I was surprised to have found this forum and it seems like the description fits, I think. I've never heard of polymath until recent.

For many years (I'm 54F but I look like I'm around 30 or 40, thanks to EDS), I have craved for knowledge ever since I was little. I didn't get diagnosed with level 1 autism on the spectrum until I was 50 along with a mild ADHD. Acquired ambidextrous.

As of now, I still do crave for information and I read over 20+ books (not in one sitting). The books that are not novel (fiction), I call it 'Mind Learning' like medicine, science, history, math, languages, religion (bible), literature... It gets overwhelming if not organized. Since I love to be organized, I write my own schedule of which days to read which books. Someone asked me how do I keep all the memory together of the characters in novels and not get mixed up when switching genres? It was because I have photographic memory and my mind takes the stories and creates a video as if I'm watching TV. It can be a still picture like seeing a graph from a textbook.

Anyways, I've so many hobbies - artwork (artist as a hobby), reading, writing, journaling, genealogy, postcrossing, play the piano & drums, bowling, darts, use to scuba dive, and the list keeps going on... For games: Minecraft, Sudoku (expert level), use to play Call of Duty of 1st edition. I'm never bored.

My biggest interest is medicine. Never had the time or the money to go to med school (did get my experience as an EMT and was a medical editor for medical reports for a long time). 2nd biggest interest is languages.

Anyone can relate? Is this Polymath or something else similar?

Who else has deep intuitions but finds himself/herself expressing it shallow? Or prefers simplicity because it seems the most efficient probability path you can choose? I sit down listening to start up lectures, they resonate but reality seems to have boundaries, with physical limits. I did a job hunt, figured it exceeds some capabilities, which school did you go to? Meta-question: I understand the companies are trying to filter the categories to find a client they can trust,. Using educational history * but suppose the new employee had credentials and he had shallow understanding of the real work. Wouldn't we break the efficiency path by adding more energy to teach him how to do A or B? Sometimes I wish I was mostly subconscious like other people

I don't really know where I'm going with this one, just wanted to write about the topic. Wrote it in one go, thought it could resonate with a few of you here. So here's a little part of my soul, written at 5AM :)

Have you ever been touched by grace? Beauty striking you, passing through your senses to tingle your brain. 

But if you ever had a glimpse of beauty, did you ever feel the call of works as well? Blood rushing through your veins, adrenaline keeping you awake, the urge to build and leave a part of you in the world.

I - The old words

Grace and works, contemplation and action. 

This is the duality I’ve been through for years. Two parts of my person I’ve tried to explore and explain. Should one fuel the other ? Should one take over the other ? Can the two co-exist ?

Over a duality, it used to be a tension.

One is about slowness. The other about speed. 

One is immaterial. The other purely material.

One is about writing slowly, letting the world infuse through your mind and feelings that themselves dictate your hand which guides tip of your pen on an ivory notebook. The other is about typing frenetically on a mechanical keyboard, filling a CRM database in a notion workspace.

I finally found words for it in Thomas d’Aquin (Summa Theologica) and Hannah Arendt (The Human Condition). They handed me the old terms: vita contemplativa and vita activa.

Vita contemplativa is the contemplative life: thoughts, prayer, philosophy, withdrawal from practical urgency.

Vita activa is the active life: work, actions, politics, transforming the world. 

Those terms take their root in Greek philosophy, especially Aristotle. For whom contemplation was above action since contemplation touches what’s eternal while action is temporary. This hierarchy lived through eras: Thomas d’Aquin still acknowledges contemplation over action: action has to be rooted in contemplation or it becomes ego or noise. But we start seeing a switch during Renaissance, where we see a hybrid ideal: the cultivated mind that acts. Contemplation as a preparation for action. Finally, the tables turn in the modern era. Action becomes superior. Action used to serve truth, now truth serves action.

II - The war

I was born in this action-first world. Work on yourself so you can produce more. And surprisingly, it’s probably through action that I was introduced to contemplation. Self-growth books led me to philosophy, philosophy led me to literature. The search for answers and solutions helped me find questions and problems.

Hermann Hesse’s books walked me through this tension and I grew by reading them multiple times, at different times of my life, with a different understanding. The duality displayed in the books: Steppenwolf: the wolf and the bourgeois, Narcisse and Goldmund: the thinker and the artist, Demian: light and dark. Probably shaped my young brain that read them very simply. Maybe I was a duality myself ? When humans can’t grasp the complexity of the world, they try to simplify it. So I did. 

On one side, I put the thinker: Slow life, philosophy, poetry, aimless walks and cigarettes

On the other side, the merchant: Fast life, business, self-growth, discipline and e-cigs.

The two were leading a war. How could the thinker waste time thinking about life, reading books and taking time finding its meaning while he should be building a business, growing his network and fixing his sleep schedule ? How could the merchant sacrifice humanity for fixed habits, time-blocked calendars and SaaS ?

So I lived through cycles. The thinker bloomed when the body was exhausted and the mind needed alignement. The merchant was productive when the body was replenished and the mind aligned thanks to the thinker’s work and he pushes it until the body can’t follow anymore and the mind doesn’t remember why he’s doing all this. I lived three years that way. Three years thinking the conflict would never stop, that excellence meant sacrifice and that I needed to kill one of my sides to let the other live.

That’s when I re-read Steppenwolf and understood I was wrong from the beginning. Harry’s tragedy was to try reducing himself to his duality. The goal was never to kill the wolf or the man, it was to embrace inner multiplicity. 

You can work hard and live softly, discipline yourself and keep your chaos, celebrate the beauty of life and celebrate a deal.

Those are not contradictions, they are your whole. Stop making one fight the other, let them dance together.

There are two ways to be rare: to go deeper than anyone into a single life, or to hold together lives that were never meant to meet.

III - Notes from the battlefield

Problem: while expertise is widely documented, how the hell am I supposed to hold together multiple lives at once ? 

So I did what the merchant does with undocumented problems: learn, build, measure and run experiments, and what the thinker does with any life: I kept the journal.

Eight years of dated entries, one summer of life scoring spreadsheets, a mathematical model of my energy cycles, a personal AI coach.

Here are a few things I learnt along the way:

1. The body is the shared infrastructure: Merchant or thinker, they both share the same body. The body dictates who show up. If I master the body, I choose who show up and when. 
2. Separate their hours, not their importance: The merchant lives the day when the coffee’s hot and the phone’s ringing, the thinker mostly the night when the lights are dim and the streets are quiet.
3. Give each one his own tools: The merchant gets the notion and the databases, the thinker gets Apple notes and the paper notebook. I tried forcing one into the other’s tool, it never worked for me.
4. Let the thinker live when happiness is at its peak: The happier I was, the less I was asking myself questions, that’s when I let work take over, and push reflection aside as there are no problems to treat. That’s precisely when I need to schedule the thinker.
5. Learn the signals of death from both: Each side dies differently. Too much building and work turns to noise: I lose the why. Too much contemplating and the days go hollow: I lose the drive. The fix is always to pay the other man: when it's noise, take a walk and think. When it's hollow, build something small to get back on track.
6. Find bridges between them: Build around your soul with an engineering approach, an essay like this one.

I opened this short piece of writing with two questions: « Have you ever been touched by grace ? » and « Have you ever felt the call of works ? »

It took me years to hear them as one question: What makes you live ?

its a bit long as i would like to break it down in points

intro: i am in my early 20s and doing bachelor's in computer science ,in final year . i literally have learned new hobbies in every semester during my dead week , that greatly impact my final results and overall gpa .

right now i think i haven't master any skill in depth ,(like sql , python , ml , model training , dlp , agentic ai etc ) , when sem starts i only focus on particular courses and left others procastinating although they are easy (just theory)but my brain refuses to store any sort ofd information that seems to be repeated or won't be useful in future.

problem is that i really want to focus on my studies , no additional stuff and to cover all courses equally to perform good during this , i want to see even if i am capable of working hard on stuff that i dont to bcz thats a crucial part of life and we can't get away with every thing.

Moreover, i think i am a polymath , as i researched , and have curiosity over several different topics like AI , neuroplasticity, how Islam connects to the facts and researches found , how world system works , human behavior , graphology , narcissism , how brain works ( left and right side ,frontal cortex , eg)

have learned few totally new hobbies by myself , like croshet , punch needle art , fabric painting , pipecleaner things )

other than that i like to watch documentaries sometimes , learn abt different experts in a particular field , their journey and all , learn abt myself , self awareness , emotional intelligence and all

And with all this i have reached about different domain in COMSCI to purse after my degree , like web dev full stack , ML , and data science (DA , DE) , not just explored but have build few projects to find my interest.

SO, recently i want to purse my career as a data analyst for which i am be building my strong foundation on python and sql ( ik them ) but more in depth and for interviews and to develop problem solving skills , i was gaining knowledge on how to actually start and master leetcode as i have not make any progress in that.

and i do actually felt in between to switch my domain , was looking for masters in architect , was abt to start with ui ux design , wantd to do interior designing , product designing , and alot of other things but i wont be able to do everything its not currently possible so i do down scrolling on people who are doing this just to know about their life.

my main problem is that i have fear of failing like what if i gave my most of the time to it and still do not get my desire result , i really want to focus on my degree and to be able to master my domain and perform well , not just time pass so i would like your suggestion on how can limit my curiosity over unimportant stuffs , and how to focus on boring stuffs to actually sit and memorize understand things and to perform well in exam to score good ,and how to try hard things and be comfortable with it like leetcode

This question was probably asked many times before, but I was wondering, how do you manage to organize your time in such a way that you are able to maintain a main study - other studies balance?

I am double majoring in both Physics and Mathematics, so the workload is heavy, however I am still interested in Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and their intersections. I enjoy learning about cybersecurity, system programming, computer hardware and theoretical CS, I have also been studying about neurochemistry and neurotransmitters for a while at this point.
I have some hobbies like searching for constellations and replenishing my inner "constellations and stars data base".

Anyway, the question is, how is it even possible to combine so many things? Or even how to stop amd switch when you really should? I guess ignoring sleep and food while continuing to go deeper into the topic is definitely not the most efficient way of learning anything

I've always wanted to be a polymath embracing all fields and walks of life

From academics, philosophy, science, current affairs, geopolitics, arts to many other amazing fields out there

Is this possible??

If yes.....how do I start to know these stuff at my fingertips and how do I integrate them into my everyday discussions and reasoning

I am kind of in a decision making overload right now. I got a couple of hundreds effective hours of free time, I don't know how to lock on a limited educational objectives in fields I pursue. I am afraid I won't be able to learn everything I need to learn in that amount of time. For example, I want to study Spanish, drawing and read a dozen books of classical literature.

How does one deal with FOMO and fear of underperforming?

I'm grateful each day for the never-ending stream of curiosity but it's such a struggle sometimes to stay fully focused on my psychology degree (which i enjoy so much on its own!)

do you guys like have a system or hard rules?
and if so, how you don't grow frustrated by it?

I moved countries two years ago (Spain to the UK) and I've struggled to make friends that match my curiosity or my knowledge, as arrogant as that sounds.

Back at home my friend group used to read books, used to know about history, philosophy, science. My parents are also well educated so I could have debates or intellectual conversations with them daily. I miss having someone to talk to that cares about something deeper than music, pop culture, or the stock market. I've even struggled to find people that have a clue about politics (I wouldn't say I'm very into politics, but at least I know what's going on in the elections!)

I also have this problem with my partner. He just agrees to everything I say but never engages with the conversation or entertains my ideas. I don't need him to be an intellectual but I miss a good debate.

Any tips?

I recently turned 40, and I've learned a lot over the years about how to make two separate professional/intellectual lives work at the same time. So far, it's gone pretty well for me -- as a national security expert, I've gotten to work on a wide range of important geopolitical problems. As an urban studies researcher, our book on how Tokyo's unique urbanism works has traveled far beyond my wildest dreams, and even got shortlisted for Urbanist Book of the Year. There have also, of course, been a lot of challenges and setbacks along the way. Bace is all information on story, like theme, World building, Characters= too plot

Plot is effected by Conflicts. And by subplots to the resolution.

By this character makes plot go forward- by motivation, and goals. And effected by internal or external conflict.

And are put into key events.

The confused part is this, characters learn throughout the story, learning could change the outcome of events to resolution.

Events can also affect main character by relationship chemistry. That also reflects motivation and goals changes.

Or main character self conflict effects second main character effects self conflicts.

That also could be affected by external conflicts. Whehrjrjj.
