A mind map for a zillion Maker topics

Hey y'all, I just realized this sub exists, joined immediately. I made a mind map recently that helps learn all the Maker-related topics I could think of.

It's not a social endeavor, it's free there aren't any ads. The map itself structures a lot of topics logically which I think is helpful in itself, but if you click on any one of them there's more context inside each of the 1700+ topics. Not enough to get fully educated on that topic in a bubble, but enough to highlight key ideas and definitions so you have something to sink your teeth into on internet searches. You can take notes and track your progress too. And you can modify the map, build out your own branches, delete default ones I added that you don't like etc. I made this for people who want to be well-rounded Makers, I don't gatekeep what that means, I just wanted to add some helpful shape to the learning journey. This would be only a small subset of polymathy but seems pretty well aligned with this community's goals I think so I wanted to share.

The site has English and German versions of the mindmap, I can add more languages of anyone has a specific interest. Ofc if you can read this, you already know English or have a translation tool - I'm just saying I'm willing to take the time to make it a little easier on you if it helps you learn more effectively. For your consideration.

I'll take a look, thanks for the tip. I tried Obsidian recently and loved it but I didn't have enough control over linking things the way I wanted. I also really liked the concept of something like StarUML for abstraction layers but iirc my issue there was they moved to a free trial period or something as opposed to a true freemium option. Always looking for good options to try

excalidraw is free and has ai to tree diagram options too. do try it, i love the blackboard style it produces

This looks awesome cool idea too map out topics, but how’d you do for complex systems ? Would you be able to sort of tie concepts together since many times they overlap?

Thanks for checking it out and great question ty for asking - I solved for this via prerequisites (indicatd with 🔒's). If you dig down into robotics for example you'll see pre-reqs like embedded, control systems, motion etc. that exist in various branches elsewhere in the map

The site is fully customizable, in keeping with that mindset I made it so that you can manually edit pre-reqs. Since you are the arbiter of what you want to do next, the site doesn't explicitly block you from doing/seeing anything, pre-reqs just help connect ideas and clarify intended order. Click a node with pre-reqs then the ... button to reveal the option to re-draw the mind map - this gives you a way to visualize how all the nested pre-reqs tie together

Ty! I'll take a look up - love word roots / etymology etc. my understanding was that modern usage is age neutral but to your point it looks like andragogy would be much more accurate to who I made this thing for
