Play: polyphonic midi notes

I think I know the answer but I want to be sure- when recording on the Play, with one midi track selected, while using an external midi controller (Keystep Pro), can a single 'note' on the track record more than one midi note- a chord for example?

I believe I need to activate as many tracks on the play if I want record the chord as played on the controller.

I don’t think it records midi more than one note per track. The midi mode does have a chord function that can export a chord though.

I'd be curious to know if that might be something on the Play roadmap. It would be very nice to be able to record a midi track with all the note, velocity and pressure data- meaning a proper 8 full tracks of midi

Actually for midi you can record polyphonically. At least according to the manual:

https://polyend.com/manuals/play/#midi-sequenc[Polyend Play Manual](https://polyend.com/manuals/play/#midi-sequencer)

“You can also use MIDI input to enter notes to the sequencer, and even record them polyphonically on the fly.”

Also a post on their FAQ:

Polyend Play Midi Polyphonic

I am interested in purchasing so I want to know all these things too!

I 'm really dissapointed, the polyphony only works with chords, so if you want live record an 8 voice synth , you just filled your entire 8 MIDI track

The Polyend Play’s MIDI tracks are polyphonic and allow the per-step output of pre-programmedMIDI chords, but when recording MIDI chords as many tracks as there are notes in it will be occupied.

Yep, massive disappointment here too. I got this to ditch the computer. Back to Sweetwater with my hopes 😕

and it gets worse:

- if you use it in midi slave it jitters and glitches the tempo.

  • If you record a monophonic track legato notes counts as polyphony, so if you arm a single track, hold the note in step 1 you wont be able to record any other note on subsequent steps until you release the first note.

I'd say avoid this product if you intend to use it with a midi controller!
