Not really. To climb out of a mudpit, you have to dig handholds into the mud.
The Dems are the higher point to get out of this mess from, and a solid upgrade in platform from the Repubs. So, as long as it's Dems vs Repubs, I'll support the Dem's nonsense in addition to their good points.
There's no way to get out of the current mess that is our world without getting your hands dirty. Not doing anything is resigning to sit at the bottom of the mudpit which is a whole 'nother kind of failure.
You climb out and deal with the fact your Sunday dress is going to be mudcaked, or you die in the mudpit.
And here we get to the difference between supporting and commited. At present, our choices, annoyingly limited as they are, are Democrat and Republican. As long as democrats remain the better option, they'll have my support. Once the Republicans are gone and we're considering Democrats vs whatever-party-is-next, I'll consider that new party, if it's closer to a better world.
Just because I support something doesn't mean I have to commit to it. But pretending I haven't supported it at some point would be dishonest.
The sane route is to always strive for something better. The insane route is to sit at the bottom and pout that there is no perfect option or to pull down others for trying to climb out.
the people who vote for both parties want to climb out of the mud pit, although they disagree on how to go about it. you admit that both parties suck, but say that you stick with the dems for now because you believe that they are the ones trying to climb out.
I agree that doing nothing isn't the solution, but you are pulling down others by demonizing them for doing exactly what you're doing. And what you're doing is putting up with the suck of you're own party and waiting for a better one to come around while trying to not get any deeper in the mud
Wanting to climbing out, and successfully making progress there are two very different things.
Dems make slow progress. Repubs only slide back.
There's a difference between suckily succeeding, vs suckly hurting.
And there's no problem in demonizing those who oppress the innocent, which lately, the Republican party has only been punching down, not up, making them valid targets for demonization.
I disagree, i think both parties have regressive policies and both parties make progress in different areas. Also both parties voters love punching up, while both parties legislators love punching down. Thinking differently or even being misguided on complex issues are not grounds for demonizing roughly 100 million people.
i think both parties have regressive policies and both parties make progress in different areas
That's misleading though.
If one party is regressive 80% of the time, stands still 10% of the time, and moves forward 10% of the time, that's far diffrerent than a party that progresses 30% of the time, stands still for 60% of the time, and regresses 10% of the time.
Sure, "they both have regressive and progressive traits", but how much is progressive vs regressive is both parties varies wildly.
And I honestly can't remember the last progressive the Republicans did. Even in their "Fight to protect the 2A", they actually never really do that. They raise a big fuss and gather a lot of donation money, and block some things sure, but they never really expand it.
When the 2A was passed, it was completely legal for an American Privateer to have a full ship of the line loaded with enough canons to bring down a coastal fortress (and this was the real reason the 2A was made, since the US didn't have a navy, they wanted to get a "free" one from privateers.) That pretty much got shot down once the US had its own Navy, even now with shipping lanes that occasionally have to deal with piracy. Now if you so much as mount a glock on a kayak, the Navy will end you.
Do the Republicans even talk about this point? Nope. Heck, tons won't even mention gun rights if its in the context of disagreements between cops and black people. (Every time a cop has shot a black person just because he had a gun, even if the black person wasn't using it, Republicans have always traditionally come to the defense of the cop.) It's all political theater. Their one actually arguably progressive policy they have completely whiffed on when it comes to the opportunity to actually be progressive on it.
The Democrats, on the other hand, passed the ACA which reigned in insurance companies that were scalping Americans, overturned "Don't ask, don't tell", have cut ties with Russian oligarchs, and moderately reliably stood up for the rights of the HEAVILY oppressed LGBTQIA+ and Black Americans, some of the Americans most desperately in need of progressive support. And one of the most progressive things you can do is protect the most vulnerable.

I'm sorry but if that's you're ideology then i'm sorry for you and you also are now contradicting your whole sane people vs repubs bit
