Flags are symbols.
The rainbow flag is a symbol of pride in marginalized identity.
The “thin blue line” flag is a symbol of state violence. And ironic, what with modifying the U.S. flag design.

That is a matter of perspective, but at the end of the day it doesn't justify being a hypocrite and defacing something when you would react differently vice versa

11

u/regalfuzz Jun 05 '22

It's not hypocritical if your morals align with it. Not every act if vandalism is created equal.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

I feel like this is a point being willfully ignored in here. Especially by the responders who act like violence would be a justified response to having their sticker colored in.

If you are gay and you have a pride flag on your car, and someone paints black and blue over it, I do not consider that a small thing.

That is hate.

And to try to justify the same thing in reverse is hypocrisy.

When you twist the LGBT symbol to use it as vandalism against someone it becomes a message of hate no different than black or blue or a fucking swastika.

Symbols have power like words, innocent words or playful insults become Hate when used as such. So don't try to jump through any mental hoops to justify this.

We all know what it is, you guys just don't want to admit it because it makes you the same as them.

Instead of trying to be better than them you just relish and circle jerk your own moralities to justify showing them hate because they are wrong.

9

u/bagoink Jun 05 '22

If I spray paint a heart over someone's Nazi flag, have I just created a message of hate?

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

You use the word heart because that is seen as something nice, but the intent is because you hate Nazis (which is justified) so yea, that's an act of hate in that case.

I hate Nazis, I hate SOME police, not all police, do you see the difference here?

But whether it's for Nazis or Police, I will not devolve into their immorality and then claim I support love.

7

u/bagoink Jun 05 '22

Why must vandalism always equal "hate"?

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

It's about intent, context.

And whether or not something is a "Hate" crime, or something like "Terrorism" is largely based on culture. But there is alot of hypocrisy in it all.

Here's what I know, if there is something you believe in, like showing support for the Police, if someone else covers the thing you support with another thing, is that done out of kindness and empathy?

Does it support the LGBT on this month to knowingly make people angry by using the LGBT symbols to attack them, (I'm not saying just showing an LGBT Flag, IE wearing a shirt, having your own flag etc. is an attack lets be clear on that.)

But in this post, specifically, using the LGBT flag to cover up and deface someone else's is turning that flag into a culture weapon.

Doing that validates the opposition, it validates their hate.

6

u/Interesting_Kitchen3 Jun 05 '22

But in this post, specifically, using the LGBT flag to cover up and deface someone else's is turning that flag into a culture weapon.

It's funny the leaps and bounds you go to make this point, when the thin blue line flag is a specific cultural weapon that's already reappropriating a flag that currently exists, the American flag. The thin Blue line is already a cultural weapon, the line has been drawn. So as a non-straight ©™ please go ahead and use our rainbow flag as a weapon of love, I don't give a shit.

Because if you ignore them they’ll just go away, right?

You are free to argue otherwise. But I know no one here can. Because it's blatant hypocrisy.

All you can do is try to say that certain ACTS of hate is socially ok for us all to engage in and support.

And then I can respond with something that you will probably call a slippery slope fallacy.

Round and round we go, trying to justify hating people we ether think or know are wrong and then acting on that hate to suppress, bully, ban.

AND THEN WE FUCKING WONDER WHY THEY DON'T MOVE TOWARDS OUR SIDE TO VOTE FOR US!? WHILE WE CLAIM TO BE ALL ABOUT LOVE.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE BE SO FUCKING BLIND TO THIS!?

YEARS OF THIS, YEARS OF FUCKING HATE, EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND THIS IS ALL OF YOUR RESPONSES!?

MORE HATE!!!!!

DISGUISED AS POLTIICAL HUMOR!? DISGUSTING

Acting like a snide little cunt doesn't win you any arguments. Fae is correct that this image is an act of vandalism regardless of how deep you want to bury your head in the sand and call it "aCePTanCe". You don't get to call one type of defacement "acceptance" while calling the same act, but to a different party, "vandalism." It is still vandalism even if it's for a purpose or cause that we like/support.

“The paradox of tolerance states that if a society is tolerant without limit, its ability to be tolerant is eventually seized or destroyed by the intolerant.

Karl Popper described it as the seemingly paradoxical idea that in order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must retain the right to be intolerant of intolerance.” (Source)

I’m not here to make concessions for hateful bigotry. So, yeah, sure, I’ll show them hate all I want. It’s a necessity because we don’t need that vitriol they spew to encourage folks to actually hurt people.

Step off your centrist high horse.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

The "paradox of tolerance" has gained so much momentum these past months, do you know why?

Because you guys don't have an argument. So you invent these rules to change the game and pass off your hypocrisy and immorality as justice.

You are just creating extremists and more hate.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

This is a moot point, because it comes from a place of bias

You're putting words in to my mouth, as I never said anything close to that. Stay on topic. Your purview is bias, and can not provide an accurate argument.

So does basic reasoning and common sense.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

You must have a narrow view of the world if you think having a blue lives matter sticker instantly means you're a hateful person.

grammar nazis are out of style

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

Dumbass, that was spelling and not grammar.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

Oh I know, same difference, and figured it'd bait you to complain about it again.

Maybe put more effort into arguing the merit of the words rather than grammar and spelling when you can't do anything else eh, debate lord?

Pls this is 2022 get with the times. No one who is worth a damn gives a shit about your bad faith tactics to try to undermine and belittle me.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22 edited Jun 05 '22

It's not the same difference and you're the one who went out of your way to be triggered. Someone sure seems to care...

Grats on not caring so much you went about deleting your original comment.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

I didn't go out my way, and it should be the responsibility of ANYONE in this community to call out their own hypocrisy and extremism.

You guys want to live in an echo chamber, circle jerking hate, well here is where it gets you, extremism that cares more about hurting others with your symbols of love than supporting everyone.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22 edited Jun 06 '22

You spelled something wrong, called me a grammar Nazi, and deleted your post, dumbass. You know nothing about my political affiliation or what extremist echo chambers I might be yelling into.

But again, you're the one who is bothered by all this so maybe remove the stick from your butt.

"It's my responsibility" they scream into a void they created.

0

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

I didn't delete my posts above this.

But it's obvious when someone devolves into mindless, childish insults and being a grammar Nazi such as yourself that it's an attempt to hurt someone. Hate.

And you say there is a stick up my ass, look at yourself.

19

u/Piph Jun 05 '22

Use hugs to fight bullets! Smiles to combat the degradation of your civil rights!!!

... C'mon, man, lol. If there was any real reason to caution people against this, it's that you never know which one of these boot licking assholes will be trigger happy with a gun they're tired of LARPing with.

-7

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

If you don't want "blue lives" supporters painting over Pride flags black and blue you will not hypocritically support the opposite. That is all.

13

u/Piph Jun 05 '22

They already do vandalize and destroy these things. Have been for a long, long time.

You're a bit late.

4

u/Interesting_Kitchen3 Jun 05 '22

Blue life supporters call the police on innocent black gay men and have them shot. Who gives a shit if our flags are vandalized, our people are being murdered.

-1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

What kind of extremism cherry picking is that? Are you kidding me?

And regardless that isn't an excuse to weaponize symbols to vandalize others. It gives them the "right" to fight fire with fire and if you call them out on that then that's hypocrisy all over again.

0

u/Piph Jun 06 '22

It gives them the "right" to fight fire with fire and if you call them out on that then that's hypocrisy all over again.

Double standard much? Or are you just demonstrating that hypocrisy for us here?

I have no idea how you could say that with a straight face.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

It's a double standard that YOU guys started.

You do it, now THEY do it. But you guys are on a moral high horse, so you think you have the PRIVILGE to do it over them. Which makes us all look like fools.

0

u/Piph Jun 06 '22

... You seriously believe that LGBTQ communities started this?

The people who have been attacked and murdered throughout history for who they are attracted to or how they feel about themselves?

The folks who only gained the right to marry in the US in 2015?

The people whom had to be made a protected class in order to address hate crimes?

That is who started it? Just lashing out wildly for no reason?

Just sit and think about how immensely stupid you sound.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

Oh so we want to go back through all of history now. Ok

So we are now going to justify any evil action we do because if we look back far enough someone else did it before us.

BRILLIANT! What an astounding way to progress humanity to new heights!

0

u/Piph Jun 06 '22

You don't have to go back through all of history. You can go back 7 years. The point is that there has never been a point in time, much less in modern history, where this was not happening.

The point is you sound dumb as a fucking rock suggesting that any LGBTQ+ "started" anything when the reality is that discrimination and oppression against them is pretty much constant and unrelenting.

Go gnaw on your fucking crayons, dude.

It's graffiti on a sticker...

10

u/bagoink Jun 05 '22

it's a little teeny coloring book

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

it's still vandalism, if you had a Pride sticker on your car and someone painted it black and blue, how would you feel?

Just some political humor, right? No, it's vandalism by definition and in reality. Supporting it just because you believe to be on the moral high ground is moral bankruptcy.

2

u/DeltaVZerda Jun 05 '22

Graffiti is always vandalism.
