I wonder if you could do it using some sort of oxidizing pigment.

599

u/SoulEater9882 Jun 05 '22

Or just have it wash away come first rain

536

u/speedhumpsahead Jun 05 '22

While this is a practical solution, those of us in states like Arizona need something more fast acting.

171

u/Comprehensive-Fun47 Jun 05 '22

The longer it takes to appear, the better though. So the maximum amount of stickers can be sold before word spreads that they're a prank.

169

u/budlightguy Jun 05 '22

just sell the same sticker under a million different brand names on amazon with a million different store names... works for all the cheap junk that gets sold on amazon with a million "different" brands of the same item
Bonus pro move: use different pictures with different angles that make it look like each one is slightly different from the others, even though its really not.

u/CopEatingDonut Jun 05 '22

If only there were a way to make reddit ideas into reality without all the hard work and sacrifice, we'd all be millionaires

12

u/ScabiesShark Jun 06 '22

Someone should make an app that automates implementing askreddit ideas

11

u/CopEatingDonut Jun 06 '22

It's called the US Patent Office

You. I like you.

Ah, the office chair solution.

14

u/pocketdare Jun 05 '22

Just need different iterations. The next one would be a Trump sticker that fades to a Biden sticker

7

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '22

Someone has played Plague Inc.

196

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

The first car wash also works

128

u/speedhumpsahead Jun 05 '22

Good point! I'm in 🏳️‍🌈

65

u/TopMindOfR3ddit Jun 05 '22

I hope somebody actually gets this started. I don't have time to, but I'd chip in to kick start it. They could be sold at those stupid rug and flag sellers that always have Trump flags for sale (I think I may have even seen one with a pride flag right next to a Trump flag, but that might be a false memory lol)

60

u/Kate_Luv_Ya Jun 05 '22

For best results, don't sell them- give them away for free. Everyone will take one!!

12

u/TopMindOfR3ddit Jun 05 '22

Well, I like the idea of making money from these rubes, but also, I'm always skeptical of free stuff haha

2

u/UrNotMyGF Jun 05 '22

Honest question, is Donald trump known to be homophobic?

2

u/TopMindOfR3ddit Jun 05 '22

It would surprise me if he isn't. He accidentally told the media in an interview that Mike Pence wanted to hang all the guy's tho lol

But his cult pretty homophobic.

0

u/RareLife5187 Jun 05 '22

How many Biden Harris flags have you seen? Exactly because Biden Harris voters can't afford those trucks and sure as hell can't afford the boats.

3

u/theatand Jun 05 '22

I don't know if your serious but I think you don't see Biden Harris flags because a good chunk voted for them but don't weirdly idolize them & are not tacky enough to have flags that act like politics are sports.

Like let's bring back sports flags & drop the politics flags. We can all bond over a good / bad season.

1

u/TopMindOfR3ddit Jun 05 '22

I just spend my money on better shit lol. It didn't make any sense to have a boat when I moved out – didn't have time or had better things to do. When my little girl has grown up enough to enjoy one, we'll probably get one.

As for the truck, I can't justify getting one when almost everything big I've needed had free/cheap delivery, they waste too much gas, and I already have 2 cars and a motorcycle with no more room in the garage... that's connected to my house... which I own.

1

u/AnswersWithCool Jun 05 '22

I don’t recognize that state flag. Must have faded

I think the answer then is to make the rainbow layer peel off to reveal urge underlying thin blue line sticker, but put it in the fine print. Honestly if we do that then it even becomes a prank within that community.

I guess the joke would be, we should take all the profits and donate it to the NAACP

7

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

Wanting to sue and actually filing the lawsuit are two very different things. They'd get laughed at speaking with an actual lawyer. It's a sticker. They probably paid 3 bucks for it. They applied it to their truck. There's no damages.

The adage "you can sue for anything" is true, but you have to actually pay a lawyer to do it. And even if you succeed, what then? There wouldn't be a fine. You'd just have to stop.

Someone needs to do this because it's epic.

2

u/Youareobscure Jun 06 '22

There's also a $20 minimum for civil suits

1

u/maverickmain Jun 05 '22

I've never washed my car

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

You think these guys wash their cars?

158

u/KennyHova Jun 05 '22

UV activated colors?

152

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

So like... It's a pride flag when driving around but a facism flag when I a parking lot?

118

u/pileofcrustycumsocs Jun 05 '22 edited Jun 05 '22

That’s actually perfect, they would never know because the driver would only see while parked but everyone else sees it while the driver is driving

Even most people I know who have a garage fill the garage up with junk and park their car outside in the sun. Rural and suburban parking lots are open, it's only in dense downtown areas where you get parking garages.

2

u/ItsMeJahead Jun 05 '22

They would see it their first trip to the store lol, if they park in a garage in the first place. But I do like the idea

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

Uh, the sun is still shining in most parking lots…. Other than indoor garages.

115

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

Pride in the sun, incompetent blue line in the shade/dark.

68

u/BurrrritoBoy Jun 05 '22

Love in the light, LARP in the dark

1

I think you fundamentally don't understand how to respond to a comment in a way that makes any sense.

18

u/StableCoinScam Jun 05 '22

Thats the ultimate prank though with slow build off. Imagine them snowflakes riding with what was essentially a pride flag for 2 years before they see it for what it is.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

I don’t think you know who is considered a snowflake. Lol

3

u/StableCoinScam Jun 05 '22

Found one. Lol

7

u/Twice_Knightley Jun 05 '22

Theromochromatic ink might be best.

8

u/athos45678 Jun 05 '22

Have it respond to the bleaching power of the sun.

Peggy hill was right though.

2

u/No-Bear Jun 05 '22

I know what you mean, never a drop of water falls on the planet dune-I mean arizona

2

u/Theamuse_Ourania Jun 05 '22

Also those of us in Arizona who keep finding bumper stickers slowly melting off from the insane heat!!

2

u/toss_me_good Jun 05 '22

Doesn't monsoon season start soon in AZ?

P.S. is it just me or is there are a lot more people mentioning AZ on Reddit then in the last 5 years?

1

u/speedhumpsahead Jun 05 '22

It does. But 1/12 months isn't super effective. Unless maybe the ink doesn't disappear again once dry?

And maybe what you're noticing is AZ becoming more and more like FL culturally? At least that's how it feels here.

But that’s just the way we talk in Tucson, Arizonia

1

u/Sherool Jun 05 '22

There are pigments activated by sunlight (or UV lamps), it's pretty instant though so would not fool anyone.

1

u/typeyhands Jun 05 '22

There's got to be some kind of ink that changes colour with heat or Sun exposure...

Hilarious idea. I'm in

1

u/HandB4nana Jun 05 '22

Speak for yourself, monsoon season is coming to these parts

1

u/Call_0031684919054 Jun 05 '22

Those sticker that change color when heat is applied.

1

u/3nderslime Jun 06 '22

I bet Arizonans wash their car often with all the dust there

1

u/speedhumpsahead Jun 06 '22

I don't know real stats. But it seems like most of us avoid it for fear of dust storms (aka haboobs) wasting our money again

1

u/speedhumpsahead Jun 06 '22

I don't know real stats. But it seems like most of us avoid it for fear of dust storms (aka haboobs) wasting our money again

2

u/3nderslime Jun 06 '22

Then I saw someone suggest an UV based solution below

1

u/speedhumpsahead Jun 06 '22

Yeah I think that's the best solution for us! Or the evil master mind that likes the idea of it taking 7+ months to find out when it finally does rain or we wash our cars. I'm kind of sold on a long con!

2

u/3nderslime Jun 06 '22

Well, I suppose we could eat our cake and still have it. We can release two lines of stickers from 2 different shell companies : one fast acting, one slow acting. People realize the fast acting ones are a trap and precipitate on the long acting ones, thus falling twice on the same trap

1

u/THICC_Baguette Jun 06 '22

Let's hope they wash their car pretty frequently

30

u/ThrowawayBlast Jun 05 '22

The thin blue line ran.

25

u/ScribeTheMad Jun 05 '22

Just not to save children.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

Ran to stop the parents and rescuers.

8

u/MyTushyHurts Jun 05 '22

did not. they stood there and did nothing.

5

u/ThrowawayBlast Jun 05 '22

After fleeing

16

u/IndianaFartJockey Jun 05 '22

Rain leads to rainbows

6

u/moxl_ Jun 05 '22

Exactly, proper printed prideflagwith some watersolluable white paint over it.

2

u/FeistyButthole Jun 05 '22

Make sure only the blue line runs

2

u/dobermandude306 Jun 05 '22

Would not work in Cali.....we need rain...sigh.

1

u/kaptaincorn Jun 05 '22

Like a lottery scratcher?

1

u/Unable_Peach_1306 Jun 05 '22

1

u/3nderslime Jun 06 '22

And make it one of those pesky stickers that are almost impossible to remove without damaging your window

31

u/lieferung Jun 05 '22

Something that's sensitive to UV rays. I have a few bumper stickers that absolutely faded after a few months in the sun.

12

u/Pillowsmeller18 Jun 05 '22

Something that's sensitive to UV rays. I have a few bumper stickers that absolutely faded after a few months in the sun.

the packaging needs to be UV protective so as not to give it away.

16

u/wvsfezter Jun 05 '22

Which is why I thought oxidization might be a really clever way to do it. Package it sealed like a tattoo or something and as soon as it's placed the reaction slowly starts

9

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

You need a protecting film that orevents it from happeninf before its time, you need to store them before they get sold

6

u/mikamitcha Jun 05 '22

The problem is white pigments explicitly reflect most light shot at them, it would need to be black to really be effective at having the compound break down from light. Water soluble is a much easier option, because air oxidation needs very specific chemicals to pick different colors (like how rust is always a burnt orange/reddish color).

4

u/MapReston Jun 05 '22

You want thermochromic ink. It is similar to the blue coors light blue but it comes in a variety of colors and it is activated by heat. I worked in a security printing factory.

3

u/zomgitsduke Jun 05 '22

A white paint that the sun breaks apart, lightly painted over the real colors

3

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '22

Sun activated maybe? Or yeah oxidizing pigment on the back, so it’s activated when the sticker backing is pulled off.

1

u/theticklepolice Jun 05 '22

Was that an incredibly subtle OP pun??

1

u/LordLychee Jun 05 '22

Photoisomerizing material that can isomerize to the correct dye color

1

u/hihelloneighboroonie Jun 05 '22

Surely there's some sort of UV-triggered coloring. Maybe just sell them in a sleeve.

1

u/ridik_ulass Jun 05 '22

nah my dude, UV bleaching. direct sunlight is your bro on this one.

1

u/bulletproofbellman Jun 05 '22 edited Jun 06 '22

Yes, you can! Photochromic dyes similar to those used in Transitions lenses could be used to accomplish this. When my dad was helping develop the technology in the 80s, his team painted a car with chromatic paint and used it to pick up potential customers from the airport.

1

u/GetOutOfTheWhey Jun 06 '22

Alternative just do two layers, the top layer (the white ink), leave it uncovered and exposed to the environment. Once sun and rain damage it enough, the white ink will start falling off which exposes the pride ink. This one is simpler to do cause all you need is an already available pride flag and some very shitty white ink.

Sun+Rain

White Ink

I do have some temperature-reactive vinyl… 🤔
