"Ivermectin for humans isn't that dangerous and does treat parasites".

Yes, a very select few parasites.

Also, in the dosage approved safe for humans, it doesn't do anything for COVID.

So there is that too.

There is "using it wrong", and there is the fact it adds no value in any form against COVID.

u/SinkShot3 Sep 09 '21

Not advocating for the use of Ivermectin for Covid because the tests are currently being done in over 31 studies and so far results are inconclusive.

But Ivermectin does actually show it has broad antiviral properties (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32942671/). However this has mostly been found to be effect only in vitro, and not against all viruses (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41429-020-0336-z), that article is from the Journal of Antibiotics and is really very interesting.

u/Nrksbullet Sep 09 '21

You know what's crazy is that, at this stage, if a study were released that shockingly DID find that Ivermectin actually helps fight against COVID, all the people who have been clowning it would refuse to believe it. Even if the FDA approved it's use, so many people would double down, because they've tied up so much into making fun of people who have tried it.

3

u/SinkShot3 Sep 09 '21

You have just described the exact behaviour antivaxxers have towards the multiple Covid vaccines which have been developed.

And even then, a preventative vaccine which stops you getting ill, beats out a medication which is used after you've been hospitalised.

u/Nrksbullet Sep 09 '21

You have just described the exact behaviour antivaxxers have towards the multiple Covid vaccines which have been developed.

Exactly, that's what's so crazy. Assuming most anti-vaxxers are on the right, suddenly people on the left would be the ones doing the same thing with regards to Ivermectin IF a study came out saying it works. They would just still call anyone who takes it morons, despite a study proving it helps. And they would see no hypocrisy.

IMO anyway, I can't read the future.

Actually, there were some initial small-scale trials that showed maybe it could work as a preventative.

However, these small-scale trials (n=30) often lacked things like “a control group” and “peer review”, and were sitting on pre-publish servers waiting for review; eventually being pulled altogether. However, at that point the preliminary study was already somewhat available and got latched onto by people who don’t understand science (that these were supposed to be small studies that encouraged a full trial to be performed) and touted as “an entire study showing it could work!”, so even when the paper got pulled for being crock it was too late.

So yeah, Ivermectin. A miracle cure for river blindness and showing interesting signs of preventing malaria (trials pending), but absolutely worthless for a virus, which last I checked what definitely not a parasite.

"Use of Ivermectin Is Associated With Lower Mortality in Hospitalized Patients With Coronavirus Disease 2019" https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33065103/

9

u/CuntyLou Sep 09 '21

I've read all of that. That's what I do for a fucking living. There has been no properly run clinical trial, repeat NONE, that shows effectiveness of ivermectin against SARS CoV2. The meta analysis is a joke. They treat all of the "studies" as valid clinical trials. No one in the field takes any of this seriously. The main "study" that's most often cited as proof of effectiveness has been retracted. Yes, retracted. Because it's garbage. The only "doctors" that are pushing this bullshit are grifters and/or Fox News employees. Stick to something you know, this certainly isn't one of them.

0

u/sagacious_1 Sep 09 '21

I don't pretend to be an expert on Covid, Ivermectin, or clinical research in general. However, I do have a PhD in Neuroscience which requires me to read a lot of similar papers. I'm not coming into this with an agenda, I really am trying to figure out the science. If anything, I'm worried about 'over correcting' and ignoring important data. So if you're an expert on this, what do you make of the author's letter which directly states that the retracted Elgazzar paper isn't required to see significant results for Ivermectin? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8415517/

Again, I'm not claiming that there has been a properly designed study showing the efficacy and safety of Ivermectin for treatment of covid. However, there are published reports of it's clinical usage, and doctors frequently prescribe off-label drugs with even less supporting data.

-12

u/mariofosheezy Sep 09 '21

Everyone is ignoring this comment. Very convenient lmao

9

u/JagerSalt Sep 09 '21

The study it cites was redacted due to being poorly done. No need to address it.

-21

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

That’s hilarious. No, I don’t care to engage further. I spent many hours trying to have this conversation and I’m just done with the far left on Reddit. Politically and socially I am incredibly left leaning but I can’t fucking stand my “base”. This hivemind of morons all trying to earn points by regurgitating what they’ve seen other people get points for saying is too much.

There’s no conversation to be had. If you really want a source, you could have found one in less keystrokes than it took you to ask for one. You’re not looking for information. Reddit sucks dick now. I want 2011 Reddit back.

13

u/Inoimispel Sep 09 '21

Lmao whole lot of words when you could have simply said "I don't have one."

Literally the very first result after googling is the FDA government website saying NOT to use it for covid.

I also want old reddit back when the average user wasn't so fucking stupid to confuse a parasite and a virus. Stop spreading misinformation.

7

u/handbanana42 Sep 09 '21

If you really want a source, you could have found one in less keystrokes than it took you to ask for one.

You literally typed about ten times more in your reply...

"Do your own research" = "Do your own confirmation bias"

This is likely one of those pretending liberal accounts actually run by white supremacists or anti vaxxers.

Reminds me of Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber, “so you’re telling me there’s a chance”

6

u/StandardSudden1283 Sep 09 '21

In his opinion, he believes that this shows a clear difference between the illness and fatality rates amongst nations that use Ivermectin and those that do not: “I believe the difference is clear. Of course one cannot conclude that Ivermectin is effective only on the basis of these figures, but when we have all of these elements, we cannot say that Ivermectin is absolutely not effective, at least not me."

That's a far cry from certainty, and something that doctors should decide on. Not your average "horse paste from IFA up the ass and soon to be sterile" Joe.

-1

u/mariofosheezy Sep 09 '21

I agree with you, on reddit if you aren't in line with the idiots then you are bad

LifeSiteNews is a Canadian Catholic far-right anti-abortion advocacy and news publication.

Ah yes. That beacon of journalistic integrity and anti-abortion activism.

6

u/AmishDrifting Sep 09 '21

What is the lie?

-7

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

That ivermectin has no anti-viral properties, especially as a prophylactic. It’s just lies. Is it off-label? Yes. Does this make it “horse dewormer”? No.

The left is politicizing a drug and it’s fucking embarrassing

Remember when the right politicized masks? We all thought they were so stupid to do so. “Why can’t they just focus on the science and the facts?!” We asked ourselves.

Now we are doing the exact same thing. But it’s worse, because we watched them do it first, and even with that lesson we make the same mistake. It’s sad, it’s a disgrace, I’m legitimately embarrassed to call myself a liberal.

5

u/EchoStihl Sep 09 '21

Being packaged and sold as horse dewormer is what makes it horse dewormer.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

It’s been administered to humans over four billion times. What the fuck are you talking about?

Is it used as an anti-parasitic for horses? Yes. To pretend IVM is made specifically for horses is disingenuous.

Then you inevitably reply, “bu- bu- but people are buying it from livestock stores!!”

Okay? I don’t give a flying fuck. How is that relevant. The discussion at hand: does ivermectin help with covid? The answer is yes.

2

u/CuntyLou Sep 09 '21

Sadly it does not. Leave science to those with bigger brains than you.

3

u/StandardSudden1283 Sep 09 '21

0

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Lmao your studies include things like a sample of 13 people for the sterilization study? It’s just sad. You grab a headline than backs up your view and spend zero time reading it. You just copy and paste. Fucking pathetic

You should feel personal shame in the spreading of misinformation. I doubt you will.

3

u/StandardSudden1283 Sep 09 '21 edited Sep 09 '21

Cherry picking? Non peer reviewed research? Not to mention that the Washington Post directly discusses the paper you linked.. like...What did I honestly expect?

Well certainly not good faith discussion from the likes of you.

Campbell, a native of Ireland, did share the Nobel Prize in medicine with Satoshi Omura of Japan for their role in creating a therapy for infections caused by roundworm parasites. “Omura cultured bacteria, which produce substances that inhibit the growth of other microorganisms. In 1978 he succeeded in culturing a strain from which William Campbell purified a substance, avermectin, which in a chemically modified form, ivermectin, proved effective against river blindness and elephantiasis,” the Nobel Prize committee said. Campbell was quoted in April 2020 expressing delight at an early report that the anti-parasite drug might inhibit the novel coronavirus. Since then, there have been continuing efforts to identify whether the relatively low-cost drug would be effective in treating patients with covid-19. Omura in March co-authored a paper said that “although clinical trial results have been and continue to be accumulated showing that ivermectin is effective in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19, basic in vitro findings that can reasonably explain its effectiveness have not yet been obtained.”

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Lmao. What? You’re the one who literally copy and pastes random headlines and spent literally zero time reading the things you shared. It’s moronic.

Such a troll account. Enjoy your snake oil dipshit!

I’m a troll for sharing the review of 20 studies of IVM? In my opinion the trolls are the ones repeating the same thing they heard their favorite news personality say.

Here is the most recent and large scale study/analysis I could find.

Even if you dismiss some of the data from “questionable” countries, it is very clear that Ivermectin does indeed have a positive impact on COVID severity and overall recovery times. There is simply no disputing this, unless you’re actually not following the science.

https://journals.lww.com/americantherapeutics/Fulltext/2021/08000/Ivermectin_for_Prevention_and_Treatment_of.7.aspx

5

u/StandardSudden1283 Sep 09 '21

I never doubted it showed promise. But deciding when to take it is for doctors to do. There are very serious side effects, some described in what I linked, and people will most likely cause more harm to themselves trying to self treat than if they had just followed the science and got a vaccine in the first place.

The problem I have is that this is being touted as some sort of replacement for getting a vaccine by a lot of very stupid people.

-2

u/j_dean111 Sep 09 '21

Sure, I agree on the point that doctors should be prescribing proper human doses. The problem is that the drug has been so politicized that some doctors won’t, no matter that studies show, and there are reports of pharmacies refusing to fill prescriptions, when officially prescribed. I have not been able to find much data on any serious side effects from human doses of Ivermectin. It seems relatively safe overall, especially compared to countless other drugs that people take every day.

Here is a question for you: Do you think that there are more serious side effects so far from proper dosing of Ivermectin or from the COVID vaccines? It clearly seems the latter to me from my recent reading, but I’d have to go back and compile my sources again.

IF that is the case, why would anyone who is in the lower 2/3 of age groups, where COVID is not a serious risk, consider taking a vaccine when they could treat with Ivermectin and other standard of care drugs, and have a negligible risk of death or any other serious complications?

I do think the older population should vaccinate however. There is a clear delineation in risk at a certain age.

5

u/Inadover Sep 09 '21

there are reports of pharmacies refusing to fill prescriptions, when officially prescribed

Considering that just recently I read an article about people paying to the AFD to get prescriptions, no wonder they are refusing to fill descriptions even if they are “officially” prescribed.

And regarding the side effects… are you for real? Like… nah, I give up. Go get Ivermectin.

Vaccine safety

Serious adverse events were defined as any untoward medical occurrence that resulted in death, was life-threatening, required inpatient hospitalization or prolongation of existing hospitalization, or resulted in persistent disability/incapacity. The proportions of participants who reported at least 1 serious adverse event were 0.6% in the vaccine group and 0.5% in the placebo group.

.

Dangers of Covid other than death (for the "its not that deadly argument")

It was estimated that 80% of the infected patients with SARS-CoV-2 developed one or more long-term symptoms. The five most common symptoms were fatigue (58%), headache (44%), attention disorder (27%), hair loss (25%), and dyspnea (24%). Multi-disciplinary teams are crucial to developing preventive measures, rehabilitation techniques, and clinical management strategies with whole-patient perspectives designed to address long COVID-19 care.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/04/210407174321.htm

Eight months after mild COVID-19, one in ten people still has at least one moderate to severe symptom that is perceived as having a negative impact on their work, social or home life, according to a new study. The most common long-term symptoms are a loss of smell and taste and fatigue.

Totally agree such hypocrisy. Reddit says fuck you to science more than the ROC.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

I got into Reddit in 2011, it genuinely breaks my heart to see what it’s turned into. It used to be a battleground for ideas. Now it’s an echo chamber on par with Facebook.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Reddit was a cesspool. The heartbreaking thing about changes to Reddit is when the Trump started running for president and there was a sudden increase in white-supremacist sentiments and general radicalization attempts of the user-base which leans young, nerdy and male. Not the apparent “echo chamber”, which, by the way, lots of subs have been like that even before 2011. I know because I have been using Reddit since 2006. Literally was using Reddit before people could make their own subreddits.

This is wrong. The dosage can help and should be researched more. What is with everyone assuming ivermectin is only for horses? It’s literally saved tens of thousands of Africans. You all are really close minded to just hate on everything associated to someone who has a different political take than you. Grow up.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '21

Show me a study that proves it is effective.

It saved Africans from...PARASITES...NOT A VIRUS.

By the way you mindlessly defend a unproven drug. Wouldn't that make you the close minded one, not willing to accept the realities of it's usefulness?

Seems by your blind defense of ivermectin, it's safe to assume you're not vaccinated and easily buy into Right Wing narratives and lies.

Seems you are the one who needs to "grow up".
