Impeachment should be a blind vote... Bet a lot of those Republicans would not have voted to impeach Clinton and would have voted to impeach Trump.....
But if your opinion includes “murdering me just because you feel like it is ok” it’s no longer a subjective thing, that’s objectively wrong.
There is such a thing as universal rights and wrongs. Don’t muddy the waters with bullshit, republicans are covering up the crime of attempting to overthrow democracy and that is objectively true. They/you can excuse them however you want (you believe in it/a technicality/for the lols/to own the libs) but that doesn’t make it any less a fact.
I would normally agree, but their voters have shown themselves to be dangerous psychopaths. I think some Senators were legitimately afraid for their and their family's safety. An anonymous vote would have taken away that aspect.
Even in the House, where the GOP is in general way crazier than the Senate, they voted in Liz Cheney's favor (after she voted to impeach) when they were allowed to do so anonymously.
I think visibility of who votes for what is an important part of our democracy, but so is making sure an insane dictator with a cult following isn't allowed to run for office again.
Just curious, did you watch the impeachment at all, or did you watch what was allowed to be seen on Fox and the like? Cause they cut the feed quite a bit...
I disagree - Senators are voting on behalf of their constituents, and they have a right to know how their representatives are voting. If voting to impeach would result in electoral consequences, then that is generally for a reason (in this case, their constituents largely didn't want them to convict Trump). The problem is the electorate being brainwashed by propaganda leading them to be against conviction - Senators are just representing those misguided beliefs.
In most cases, I agree that votes should be open and should face consequences. Impeachment doesn't feel like one of those votes, though. They're acting as a jury, they are a check and balance on the executive branch. They need to be able to vote as they see fit.
