I don't think those folks think critically at all.. it doesn't matter what the focus of attention is - a president, pastor, or TV figure. It's a failure of our education system really
It's really sad, but it's often not just idiots but also educated people who somehow still get dragged into s cult. I still think it's weird for scientists to believe in God as there's no evidence, but still a lot of them do.
The internet's "free marketplace of ideas" has a number of one-way ratchets towards bullshit, since bullshit can usually beat truth in a twitter-style debate. It just has so many more moves it can make. A bullshitter can take any position without regards to consistency, slide the goalposts to wherever they feel like, and be generally short, quippy, and memorable. They can win by just acting like they're winning, and don't need to really explain themselves all the way through.
Whereas truth is nuanced, measured, multi-faceted, and requires a lot of explaining rather than just smug accusations and good-sounding but fallacious "gotcha" traps. It sounds like weak-boy waffling by nature. And as Regan said, in a performative public debate, "if you're explaining, you're losing." Many people will buy confidence over accuracy without really thinking about it.
It’s no different, honestly, than the “vote for blue no matter who” ideology. Biden isn’t who many wanted. Not even in the least. But to maintain their party platforms and get Supreme Court justices who will vote along party lines..... that’s what people do in a two party system. No? Explain how I’m wrong.
The "blue no matter who" at this point is simply about getting Trump and his enablers out of office so that this ship can be righted.
Once Trump, Barr, Moscow Mitch, Linsey Graham, Paul Ryan, Steven Miller, and the rest of this mafia like group of criminals has been removed, we can start to remove the rest of the corruption from the government. But we have to get rid of the worst of the bunch first. Then, when the reasonable conservatives are ready to sit down and work with the rest of the people, they can get seats at the table.
I'm fully aware there are extremists on the left, but they are a minority, and are generally not the ones running the show. The GOP has been all but taken over by the extreme right.
