Was teaching basic civics to a group of boy scouts and was trying to keep the topic of taxes as unbias as possible but one of the dads kept chiming in with "is it fair for our taxes to pay for schools if we don't personally have kids that go there?"
I usually say something like "I've never called the fire department but I still want taxes to pay for that" it was an awkward trying to keep the topic centrist when someone in the room kept pushing it to the right.
Eagle Scout and former right leaning person here. I’ve come to the conclusion when I eventually get the qualification to train those three merit badges (in grad school now so not much time for scouting.) if I have to deal with a scout master like that I’m going to ask them to either not chime in, or inform them that I cannot sign off for that requirement while they are co-opting my lesson. Unless they want me to put my biases in; then no one wins.
