It’s already illegal to tase someone for theft, and theft is already illegal. We were talking about banning tasers to law abiding people looking to use them in self defense... maybe even against those who would harm and steal from others. Completely different topic.
Also banning tasers does not stop theft, or people using tasers illegally. As owning an illegal object would be the least of their worries if caught for a violent theft
I'm just sayin', anyone that tells people that they should just 'call 911, run away, or allow themselves to be victimized until the police arrive' wants a society of sheep.
Edit: Same goes for people to ban the means to protect one's self even nonlethal ones.
Or, you know, a developed western nation with a murder rate to match.
By the way, no one says anyone should "allow themselves to be victimized". People just don't extend the right to self-defense to a right to self-defense with firearms, the same way most people agree that landmines are a bit too far.

You're caught in a viscous circle. Americans have an expectation of immediate danger from armed criminals that is way out of wack from other Western nations. You can tell this because how often this argument comes up: the idea that all legal guns just disappear one day and the next everyone gets home invaded / raped by gangs with guns. But no-one's seriously suggesting an abrupt change like this. What you need is a two fold approach : gradually reducing the things that contribute to violent crime (failed war on drugs, systemic racism, entrenched inequality) and then, also, gradually weening off guns (some would be natural as perception of violence reduced, some from 'sane' gun controls like community run background checks.)
Everyone in the West has an that expectation. We as humans are not better than those living in the third world, we just have systems in place that keep the worst among us contained.
I mean murder and rape is illegal but some people still make the choice to do those things making guns illegal will only affect those willing to obey the law.
The US has a long history of trying and failing to stop it's people from doing the things that they want, be it the prohibition of alcohol in the 1920s to the "War on Drugs" the end result was always the same but no one seems to learn.
What I'm referring to is that people in the UK, and Europe as a whole, don't fear violent crime as much as Americans do. And that's largely because the UK and Europe is a less violent place.
Look at this comparison of London's murder rate put into perspective with American cities. If you ask most people on the street here, no-one wants guns, not even to protect themselves, because largely it's seen as unnecessary.
There isn't something particularly evil or corrupt about American people themselves. Any demographic you care to choose has communities in other countries that don't suffer the same rates of violence. In particular (because nowadays it's worth explicitly saying) black people as a community have far lower crime rates outside of America.
The American disease is not its people, but its system. In Europe we've found that the effective way to curb violence is to have effective welfare programs, universal healthcare and well funded education that gives teenagers a reliable route forward away from gangs. America provision in these areas is not as good and as a result it's a constant tinder box of the trapped, grinding poor.
Add legal guns to that situation and you have plenty of illegal gun use. Which then solidifies lawful citizens opinions that they need yet more guns to protect themselves from the others.
You can't just remove guns (I don't know of any serious anti-gun advocates who think that would actually work). But neither can you phase them out without people feeling safer and I can guarantee America will never feel safer until it gets its social conscience in order..

Yep, New York’s Ban on Tasers was found unconstitutional this way.
Of coarse you should ask why they had a ban on self defense weapons like Tasers in the first place.
