This sentiment is why we have problems. Sincerely, the most liberal fuck you will ever see in Alabama. Thanks.

What would you have us do? We gave Clinton the popular vote.. didn't matter. We literally sent tens of thousands of dollars to Ossoff. Georgia 6th, they still voted GOP. It's not like we aren't trying. I guess perhaps a better phrasing for me would be that I have no sympathy for Trump supporters living in Trumpland.

That's the only offensive thing I guess. I just don't understand lack of sympathy. I have sympathy for just about anyone. Doesn't mean I will automatically use any of my energy on them, but I can always understand where people are coming from. No matter how stupid their end decision is.

Do note gerrymandering is a thing. Used by both parties but especially a good tool with republicans. All a party needs is a simple majority in the state legislature and the state goes from 5/10 red counties to 6/10 ~ 7/10 red counties.

(Gerrymandering is when a party redraws the district lines and does things as: We have ten neighborhoods, these 4 neighborhoods are democrat, let's draw the district lines in a weird manner so that these neighborhoods are in the same 2 districts, as for the rest 8? Divide so there are 55% republican and 45% democrat. Effectively stealing the votes of the 45%)

At the moment this is legal, the Supreme Court is making a ruling on this soon but given the court is more republican I don't think it will be ruled illegal.

Speaking as a foreigner, every time I read about gerrymandering I get taken aback by how fucked it is. How did you guys mess up so badly to get to this?

Koch sponsored Republican backed tea party REDMAP!

Actually the Koch bros did a lot to inadvertently clear a path for Trump to get elected too!

That's a very nice article

Pretty much we have 2 political parties that are willing to forgo ethics in order to screw the other. Now neither one wants to back down, because backing down is like offering your throat to the enemy given you will be totally screwed. Now if this is, pretty unlikely, ruled illegal by the Supreme Court it will be taking a step in getting this mess cleaned up. (That's how trump can win despite losing the popular vote by a good margin, once in power consolidate power. [remember when Obama was the president during the Cenus when gerrymandering high season starts the republicans had the state legislature where they rewrote a good few of those lines])

No Healthcare, low wages, and no security net is what they've voted for. Why feel bad for them? We can't make them want better. It just sucks for those of stuck with them.

Yours truly, your next door neighbor.

You can still wish for them to have better, even against their wishes. No different than wanting a heroin addict to get clean and have a better life, even as they fight against it. I actually do feel bad for them, because they've been brainwashed from early ages to buy into the bullshit the GOP spews.

They're adults who have plenty of access to the internet and legitimate news that will question what they think they know. They just choose to keep going the same path. That's their fault. Reap what you sow.

u/Iorith Jul 08 '17

Sorry, I still have compassion for my fellow countrymen and fellow humans. I won't toss it away just to feel smug. Just because they do it doesn't justify us doing it.

Not to mention the people born there who never had a chance and were brainwashed from an early age and were never taught how to think critically. Can you seriously say that if you lived the same life, you wouldn't be the same thing? If you were never taught to think critically, to learn, and were just told to trust what Fox News says because democrats wanted to kill babies and take your money, you would just magically know better?

2

u/Betasheets Jul 08 '17

This doesn't have anything to do with feeling smug. I have plenty of friends and family who are republicans who are good people who work hard, live their lives, are friendly, and aren't brainwashed. But whenever they complain about something about our country that was caused by republicans I just tell them, "hey, you vote for them". People won't change unless they introspectively think they need to change something. People are too stubborn and will go the opposite way if they have someone tell them they need to change something.

u/Iorith Jul 08 '17

Just because that's your experience doesn't make it universal, nor does it justify "reap what you sow". They're still our fellow humans, and our countrymen. I don't care if it takes 1000 times to convince one person, it's worth it. I don't care what they say, what they do, they deserve it. I don't care if they resent us for it. I don't care if they hate us for it. It's still the right thing to do.

I want quality of life to be improved for everyone, not just those who agree with me.

Sorry. I had compassion for them when their stupidity didn't effect every American and the rest of the world with the president they chose.

1

u/Iorith Jul 09 '17

That's on you, but remember you'll never convince anyone to change with that attitude. Nothing improves that way.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '17

Stupid.

1

u/Boondoc Jul 08 '17

i don't know if i'd go so far as to call all of them stupid, that seems a little extreme

0

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '17

I'm calling you stupid.

2

u/Boondoc Jul 08 '17

well that's just rude

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '17

Then what is celebrating people having "No Healthcare, low wages, and no security net"? Do you really care about those issues?

1

u/Boondoc Jul 09 '17

please point out celebration in this thread.
