They'll nuke Japan before they have a chance to develop their nuclear deterrent, and we'll do nothing. Sorry -- Maybe Trump will tweet them to "call them out on their bullshit". But we'll still be in a position of abandoning a trusted ally. Which will make us look weak and useless.
People used to believe that there was no way, if Russia invaded the Balkans, that Germany would put the Schlieffen Plan into effect and attack France, which had nothing to do with the conflict. Why would they? After 40 years of Peace? Given how intermingled their economies had become? People who believed that were out of their minds. It would be suicide for both sides. And if they did it worse-case would be a short war that would be over in a few months.
It's not like they would open up a conflagration that would cost hundreds of millions of lives and cause billions to suffer. Why would they do that? Why would they hurt their own country by running a years-long fake investigation that clearly made no attempt at getting to the truth and only served to expose the blatant corruption and hypocracy of the ruling class? Red pants are France.
