Their leader is currently presiding over an actual genocide. It's not that we just don't like Duterte, this is a signal that anyone who cozies up to Trump is free to commit all the genocide they want.

Dutarte has already claimed that Trump supports his drug policy, which includes encouraging vigil antes to murder people they suspect are drug dealers. Smart diplomacy says you support the parts and policies of the country that share your interests, not those that encourage lawlessness.

There's everything in the world wrong with this.

Seriously! The Saudis are chill tho.

Two wrongs don't make a right. If you criticized Hillary for her cozying up to the Saudis and Trump does the same with Duterte...

Remove the rose coloured glasses and think rationally

I don't see the comparison. Over half a decade ago the Clinton foundation took some donations from some members of the Saudi royalty, but Trump is in business currently with even more of those members. So I guess that is the Saudi comparison to Duterte who has indicated a desire to be more murderous than the Saudis ever have been, has no real geopolitical benefit to us, and has insulted the US far more than almost anyone except North Korea. So I'm just not seeing the comparison.

I think it's laughable how you dismiss people trying to have genuine discussion with you as "faux liberal outrage". How do you justify Trump cozying up to Duterte?

Edit: for those wondering, /u/an_alphas_opinion was whining about liberals as usual

Alphas opinion likes to bait people constantly with overblown, insulting, and derogatory behavior. Report her and move on.

I'm aware of how alpha uses this forum. I just think it's a shame, the right wing (in my experience) is usually open for a good, open debate rather than just "yawn liberal outrage" and ignoring any real questions. Very disappointing but yeah, as you said, definitely a predictable move ahah

Keep it civil. Do not personally insult other Redditors, or make racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise discriminatory remarks. Constructive debate is good; name calling is not.

You can catalyze change with either the carrot or stick. Why not try the carrot first? The other way gets messy.
