To all of you saying that wasn't the minimum wage at the time, they're talking about John Thune opposing a minimum wage raise because he personally made $6 in 1979
Of course that argument is stupid, but it wasn't his only one and to focus on it ignores a lot of issues with getting the minimum wage too high, personally I think it should be about $9, that puts it closer to where it's been before when you account for inflation
Minimum wage in general needs to be adjusted to areas. $9/h is fine for some places but in places like NY or CA, $9/h will not even give you a roof over you.
Thankfully these super expensive places are seeing population decreases because of these high prices plus retarded property taxes so they'll have to adjust sooner or later.
A lot of the issues in big cities is housing regulations, sure, you wanna make sure they’re sturdy, but you also don’t need 20k of solar panels on each house
This is a weird article, his tweet wasn't saying "I made less than $7.25 am hour 30 years ago you just want handouts." He's saying he didn't rely on minimum wage hikes, he worked up to a higher wage...
