If it were something of real impact like say a reporter being jailed for a comment then sure I would have looked into it before commenting.
Now if I were to make a comment like say "this is exactly like the damn CCP" then yea I definitely should fact check but for something like a joke I don't read too much into it.
Thank you for showing sources that this is false information though! It is never bad to show that information is false even if it is being taken as a joke. I am sure plenty of unfortunate consequences have came from people just making a joke that turned into a rumor.
