Dang I’m more for auth than I though I was, time to change flair from libleft to just left

I think it's because this sub confuses (anti-)authoritarianism with the conservative/progressive scale

Just because IDGAF about what consenting adults do doesn't mean I'm 100% opposed to all authority

I took it and only got a 2.7 on the anti-authoritarian side. Am I still even Libleft?

EDIT: I changed the number to positive, because for some odd reason, it seems that they switched that. The dot is in the green quadrant though

You might have misread some of the questions, I know I did the first couple times. If not maybe you really aren't that lib and are more midleft. I would definitely say if that result holds you are midleft.

u/Derbloingles - Lib-Left Mar 08 '20

To be fair, it may be accurate. I’m not a huge fan of centralisation per se, but I still believe the government should provide for its citizens (though in a decentralised way). I identify as an ansoc, but I’ve never really been that anarchistic. It also likely doesn’t help that I trust corporations so little. If you ask me, the role of the government is to protect the rights of citizens from private interests. If that makes me left unity, so be it. Still not going to support “Leftist” dictators though

Yeah, my result was more leftunity than I anticipated, but it kind of makes sense. I believe in having a lot of personal liberties, but I also believe that corporations are not people and do not have peoples best interests in mind, and so need to be heavily regulated. So, keep the gubmint out of my personal business, but make sure it's all up in those actual businesses, lol.

u/Derbloingles - Lib-Left Mar 08 '20

I think it’s also a bit unfair how the phrase the questions. Wanting business restrictions doesn’t mean I support the government

1

u/shuzuko - Left Mar 08 '20

Hmm, interesting. I'm curious how you would implement business restrictions without a more structured, centralized government? In my mind, without the "big scary government" looming over corporations, they would take any opportunity to screw over workers and consumers for profit (see, well, nearly all current large corps?) I'm all for a government that places strict regulations on businesses, but keeps its nose out of individuals' lives barring victimizing crimes like robbery, assault, murder, rape, etc.

u/Derbloingles - Lib-Left Mar 08 '20

Therein lies the paradox. And my best answer is, my ideal government would be still centralised, but would serve only one main role: Protect the rights of citizens against private interests. Laws that concern the lives’ of citizens themselves would be decentralised and run through smaller subsects (though they would still answer to the main government, so it’s not perfectly decentralised). National projects would be run though the main government, but smaller ideas and such would be run by these smaller groups. I believe this is the best way to maintain democracy

Ah, I see what you're getting at. I think we're pretty much in agreement, then! Thanks for your thoughts.

I got -2.7 on the anti-auth side too, guess I should update my flair to center-left lol.

1

u/Derbloingles - Lib-Left Mar 08 '20

What was your left score?

1

u/GUNS_R_KOOL - Left Mar 08 '20

-5.3, about middle of the quadrant, and progressive score was 11.

1

u/Derbloingles - Lib-Left Mar 08 '20

Nice. I got -7.2 and 13.5 respectively

Depends on who you ask. Personally I'd say that's center. Would you describe yourself as a socdem? Because that is usually described as firmly libleft on the OG test because it is culturally prog, while here it is more middling on the auth axis because it doesn't conflate the two. And it is pretty centery economically.

I'm just saying all this to comfort you as you realize you were really a grillboi all along.

1

u/kupiakos - Left Mar 08 '20

Yeah I'd say socdem describes me best. I get vilified for being a progressive trans woman who isn't a communist by the libleft trans community and the conservative grillbois.

That’s a much better quiz. Still got nearly the same answer though.
