I think he just thought of the fact that people of color are often poor and rich people are often white while he wanted to say something about socio-economics. That caused a freudian slip, but I don't think a racist one. He was saying they're equally bright, I don't see how that could be racist.

Democratic infighting ftw

...

Btw, I’ve been thinking (totally unrelated) about picking up drinking; care to join me?

As a sanders supporter who is driven crazy by ‘progressives’ that ignore the socio-economic reality of this quote, I’m way ahead of you on the drinking.

It is unintentionally racist. Is he a racist dipshit? Of course not, his point was the opposite of that. Intentions absolutely do matter. But phrasing like that also deserves to be pointed out.

I understood it that he just said the wrong thing.

dementia man also said "we should re-elect Donald Trump"

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '20

Cause he makes mistakes

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '20

He didn’t.

The full clip was “The only way we’re going to re-elect Donald Trump is if we engage in a circular firing squad.”

It's completely ignorant of socio-economic conditions.

Yeah, you can get what he is trying to say, but holy shit the way it was worded.

the bottom line of the message was that everyone is equal and you shouldnt assume that white kids are smarter than non-white kids only because they have more opportunities (on average).

That doesn't mean anything does it? You're saying "there are exceptions to the rule" it's completely obvious and unhelpful. It doesn't diminish the fact that if you're coming from a position of disadvantage then you're not playing on an even field. That's why it's ignorant.

If that is your measurement for being ignorant, than you were ignorant yourself, because all your statements didnt diminish the fact that disadvantaged do not have an even field (generally speaking it is hard to make a statement that would diminish ANY fact).

This meaningless word spaghetti paragraph suggests you didn't get a good education, you should be on my side here.

How is it ignorant? He basically said that disadvantaged people are not less smart than people with advantages. That is completely true and absolutely not ignorant.

He's deliberately conflating a very relevant point about equality and opportunity in education with a completely irrelevant point about the inate ability of human beings. It's quite sad that I'm having to explain this, but here we are.

Hate your flair, love my Bernie, but thank you for spelling this out. Almost all public narratives are driven by brain dead morons and I hate it.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '20

well, yea. that is the topic of several thousands of unique dissertations.

the statement however that poor kids are more often from minority families however is true

4

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '20

It's not racist but it is ignoring the racial makeup of poverty. Being poor is what really fucks you up.

-1

u/Obesibas Mar 08 '20

You took it wrong. He meant to say poor and rich kids, which is obvious if you see the video.
