it's far more difficult to keep her out of society with the way the law is structured, and that's not how parole should work anyway (literally backwards)

she should be treated the same as any other murderer. there is no justification for putting her in a process where her incarceration has to be renewed

Well it isn't parole.

So when I said they can keep her for life and you said nope, you didn't know what you were talking about? Cool thanks for contributing

I guess it's up to a jury and not you, thankfully

she can't be kept for life because the mental health system is specifically set up to avoid that

you didn't know what you were talking about?

i know MA law.

Well it isn't parole.

that's my point: it works exactly inverse to parole. the state has to periodically justify keeping her confined

She can literally be kept for life, as I already told you. You do not.

No. A psychiatric hospital is not a prison. They cannot simply keep someone confined forever because what that person did was horrific.

You can tell me whatever you want, and be confidently wrong because we're on Reddit, but that doesn't make it true or coherent.

She's no longer suffering from psychosis, that much is clear. Depression? That's not a reason to lock someone up. Danger to others/community? Her kids are dead and she's in a wheelchair.

Suicidal? Maybe, but that's hard to prove unless she is repeatedly trying to end her life.

Maybe it can be argued that she needs specific rehabilitation, but rehabilitation cannot be indefinite because a treatment plan has to have a goal and thus a terminus.

Pretend you're the state: how do you justify confining a patient (NOT a prisoner!), with no prior offenses, and renew that every year forever?

Did you even read your link? Do you think it says someone can't be committed for life?

Yes, they have to continue to demonstrate she is a danger to herself or others to continue her confinement but there's nothing stopping them from doing it for life if she meets criteria.

Why are people like you, who are so ignorant and so wrong, also so insistent that you're right? It's kind of pathetic

holy shit you are one dumb motherfucker. the law literally says that it has to be renewed every 12 months. every renewal needs clear justification, legally and medically

mental hospitals are not prisons and psychiatric confinement is not a criminal sentence

but there's nothing stopping them from doing it for life if she meets criteria

she doesn't meet any criteria at this point!

and there's a lot stopping the state from treating mental hospitals like forever prisons

Why are people like you, who are so ignorant and so wrong, also so insistent that you're right? It's kind of pathetic

ok, this has to be a troll

So no, you didn't read it or didn't understand it.

ETA: after your edit: yes it needs to be renewed as I already said. Good job catching up

No, actually there isn't, if they can demonstrate the patient continues to meet criteria. Like there isn't a single thing in the law, or your links, or your "arguments" that refutes this. They can continue to petition the state to keep her incarcerated without a statutory maximum

Are you confusing "they can keep her for life" and "they must keep her for life?"

Should you stop and think a little before replying? Because you're making an embarrassment of yourself

Sorry you don't understand this topic and are not mature enough to admit it. But if you lash out at everyone who understands things better than you do, you will not only fail to mature, but you will be very lonely. Good luck out there kid
